Salaam,
I wanted to ask if a muslim sister meets a muslim borther on the internet and the brother and sister both have intention to marry inshallah but the brother does not have the means to be married. Is it haram for the muslim brother and sister to talk on the phone from time to time in order to remain in contact until the brother has the means for marriage, if the parents of both permit them?

They should get engaged atleast. I mean, if the parents of both are allowing it & both have made istikharah and feel that they're right for eachother, then they may as well get engaged until they have the "means to get married."

:) she summed it up properly.. but both should speak to their parents as soon as possible.

Well in Islam, if both of the people like eachother, they should get married IMMEADIATLY.
There is a hadith by the Beloved Prophet of Allah (saw) saying, " Three things I encouage you to rush, marriage, to pay the debts, and the Janazah."
If I made any mistake I ask Allah az wa jaal to forgive me. Hope this helps.

Agreed with islamia..Engagements hold no status whatsoever in Islam..it doesnt make it halaal now does it :p and islamia pointed out nabi saw said do not delay in marriage once match has been found..to tht affect. :D
Salams,
Engaged?!?!?! what the hells that when its at home!?! NIKAH is the ONLY way Islam allows 2 non-mehrams to speak!
DO NOT be fooled to belive in any other way or system!
If you guys are comitted to each other, then at least get the Nikah doen,, and then work for the means to move in together!

What you talking about? If you have set the date and are 'engaged' its permissable for you to talk so long as you keep it within the limits. How else are you suppose to get to know what the person is like?
The nikah should be done quickly, but some people have parents that wont allow the to get married before they reach a certain age, or before they havent gotten their degree etc. For these people, they should really watch their tongues. Not a good idea to talk on the fone, but there is the thing of knowing that the other person is still interested. hmmm.

Assalamualaikum Sisters/brothers,
To know someone from the Internet is not the good thing especially for marriage. Becareful!!!! as he/she can say whatsoever you like to hear. I have my best friend who has been burnt from meeting a man from the Internet. The best thing is to ask your parent to find you a pious man, pray Istikarah and investigate thouroughly.
I don't want any sisters to be hurt like my friend did.

Well rest easy sis. and turn this :( into :) , I'll tell you something thats soooo funny and a great barrel of laughs- it turns out would you believe that the person said to be dead is alive and kicking afteral- it was one of those things that happen to us all the time when we think someomes stone dead and is still going you know how it is, it was of 'em Ummah.com EXCLUSIVE blunders.
Anyways what I'm trying to figure out is how this (yes man yet another marriage thread- some people can't get enough of it) turned into some death thread.

As Salaamu Alaikum,
This reminds me of when my cousin told everyone my granddad passed away. The old man lived a fair distance away in Punjab. So many people were ready to make the trip there for his janaazah, but when he called to enquire about when its going to be held, his goes "here, why don't you ask him yourself." [lol]
