Alhamdulillah it was great. You can still catch em at Leeds and Manchester!

Also I think they're gona put up the talks on the net some time.

From what I remember:

Gai eaton spoke of self indulgence and consumerism as two forms of extremism. Anger being a form of self indulgence because one is so raging inside that he searches for an outlet to vent his anger out. Consumerism - how we spend on things we are not in need of, using up the resources of the world, the consequences of which will be felt by our grandchilldren and great grandchildren.

Shaykh Abdal hakim murad likened the deen to a tree and spoke of its importance. Using the preservation of a tree in Istanbul next to the Masjid of Ayyub al-Ansari(i think) dating back to 1430(i think) and an extremely old tree he had read of, dating back to when islam began, as examples he told of how we, too, must take care of our tree(islam) and this can, of course, only be done by well trained gardeners('ulama) that have recieved the tree from their forefathers and they from their fathers(isnad) etc etc. Islam is like a well, we need to use the rope('ulama) to pull up the bucket of water. He emphasised the importance of traditional 'ulama and isnad and made the distinction between the times of the salaf and that of ours - how they were afraid to give fatwa on any given topic and how we, now, race to give fatwas, everyones a mufti. Errm, also - The awliya of Allah have no fear(ghayrAllah) nor are they sad. Opposite of that being, those that are frustrated, angry and agitated, running about not knowing what to do, looking for somewhere and someone they can take their on; following the ways of the jahiliyy arabs, blowing themselves up to show that they're not scared and also because they cant handle the shame. Suicide bombing is alien to the deen and very troubling, even more so, when it's being done in the muqaddasat(the holy places).

Wassalamu'alaikum wa rahmatallah.
