What do you think, should theyt be banned?

Gym user upset at cover-up call

A sports enthusiast was told not to wear vests at a council gym because the sight of "big hairy armpits" would upset other users. Anthony Ward, 41, said he was told by an instructor to wear T-shirts instead of a vest while using gym equipment at Horfield Leisure Centre, Bristol.

Mr Ward, a gym member for two years, vowed to continue wearing vests.

A Bristol City Council spokeswoman said vests were not banned but gym users are being advised not to wear them.

'Completely ridiculous'

The father-of-one from Horfield, Bristol, was undergoing an induction session on some new equipment at the recently-refurbished centre.

"At the start of the session the female instructor said that men should wear T-shirts rather than vests as sweat could cause the equipment to rust.

"She also said that the sight of a big hairy armpit would put off other gym users. I thought this was completely ridiculous and challenged her about it at the end of the session.

"There are a lot of men who wear vests in the gym and surely the gym is one of the only places where it is actually required that you sweat.

"To me, an armpit is just part of the human body, I don't think it's fair to have a different policy for men and women."

A Bristol City Council spokeswoman said: "When we were training staff we asked them to advise people to wear T-shirts because sweat can damage the equipment.

"It has never been a rule or policy. If this gentleman has been told he cannot wear vests that is not the case and we apologise." http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/bristol/4457828.stm

There should be 'Hygiene' warning signs 'For Health and Hygiene purposes, customers are required to remove all pubic hair before using the facilities at this gym'

Pardon me for my ignorance, but I don't get this. Why is the growing of beards so lauded amongst Muslim men then armpit hair is seen as disgusting!
You could easily have a really long beard and pick up bits of food in it and look a right sight.

Anyone in the medical field knows that when a person has an operation to remove your appendicitis the medical specialist will ask a nurse to have all the hair around the place where he/she will cut. They will also shave most the hair below the navel and upper pubic. This is because of the unhygienic nature of the hair around those areas of the body. On the other hand if a person has an operation on their face, only the hair around the cut will be shaved.

It is medically proven that both arm bit hair and pubic hair are the most unhygienic hairs on the body, as the hair on these parts of the body accumulate germs around them. It is also why these areas of the body smell the most. Hence we Muslims are commanded to shave them.

Our faces get washed at least 5 times a day when we make wudu, but it’s not practical to wash your arm pits and pubis 5 times a day as well.

No wonder the Holy Prophet was given the title of “Rahmatal lil aa la meen” “mercy onto all the worlds”. The practices of his life will always remain to be a blessing and mercy for those who follow him.

The answers are all there we just need to look for them.

Hello Boy it is also seen as wrong if people do not keep their beard clean

Funny, My chin sweats:rolleyes: .

Maybe if someone bought him a beard trimmer as a gift he'd get the point;) ; especially if he's beardless. Of course if it is a private club, they need only mention it in as a policy/rule for membership. If he wanted to renew his membership, then he'd have to accept the policy/rule. It sounds like those running the gym are, however, unconcerned.

As for shaving where a cut is made medically, it is so the hair doesn't get into the wound, and so they can easily see it to judge how it healing. Sweat itself is not the source of stink, that is bacteria, if you bathe regularly, then it does not build up and you won't stink. Of course your sweat can still stink if you eat/drink something that can be absorbed into your sweat glands.

You could easily have a really long beard and pick up bits of food in it and look a right sight.

Apocrine glands (one of the two types of sweat glands) are formed from the same structure as the hair follicle and sebaceous glands. They produce a highly individual sexual scent, the production of which is dependent on the presence of sex hormones. The apocrine glands become very active with the onset of puberty. They are found particularly in the armpit and the genital area. WHERE BAD ODOUR IS DERIVED FROM..

Body odor is produced by micro-organisms ('germs') that grow in particularly moist areas of the skin, such as the armpit. They produce body odor by digesting sebum, but they can only work efficiently if water is present.

SO HOW ON EARTH U CAN LINK THIS TO THE BEARD IS BEYOND ME.. DID U EVER PAY ATTENTION IN UR SCIENCE LESSONS... HMMM

just to say 1 thing, the hairs of the arm pits are to be plucked, not shaved, it doesn't hurt at all ...
