I've been told many times that plucking your eyebrows is forbidden in Islam but can anyone confirm this?

yes the hadeeth says that it is forbidden for women to remove and hair from their face exept for a moustache of course or if her eyebrows are so bad that they form a unibro then shes allowed to remove the hair from the middle so that u can distinguish 2 separate brows.
thanks for the reply sister.....but umm if i dont get my eyebrows threaded i look like i've got great hairy caterpillars for eyebrows :rolleyes:

iv been told that by plucking the eye brows you are changing the shape of the face and the face was created by god and we get alot gunnah doin this,btw yes i do my eye brows, and its like once youve started you think their going to look worser than before if you let them grow back....
Question: What is "an-nams"? And is it permissible for a woman to remove facial hair and the hair from her legs and arms if such hair causes the aversion of her husband?
Response: All praise is due to Allaah alone, and may Allaah send prayers and salutations upon His Messenger and his family and his companions. To proceed:
"an-nams" is the removal of the hair from the eyebrows; And this is not permissible since the Messenger of Allaah (sal-Allaahu `alayhe wa sallam) cursed the one who removed the hair from the eyebrows as well as the one who allowed such hair to be removed. It is (however) permissible for a woman to remove facial hair as well as the hair from her legs and arms.
And with Allaah lies all success and may Allaah send prayers and salutations upon our Prophet (sal-Allaahu `alayhe wa sallam) and his family and his companions.

However I have also read some where that it is allowed if the hair is totally un-normal and it makes the sister look freaky. Inshallah i will post it for the sisters once i find it.
uh-oh.....damn i wish i never got it done now.....actually my natural eyebrow shape was ok, da beautician did it when i was getting married.......damn her! :rolleyes:
inshallah i will from now on jus pluck a few hairs, just to avoid looking like Bert from sesame street :D

It's so hard giving up. I can't look at myself in the mirror if I haven't done them. Infact, I haven't done them for ages and they're groing back. My natural eyebrows are not big and bushy but they're different. One is curvy like dad's and the other is pointy like mums. It gives off the impression that I'm a forever senical person. I want to stop and insha`Allah I will.. But I know it'll take time :(

inshallah u will give up. it was really hard for me but i prayed so much that one day i just stop. now i look at them i like my eye brows they aint that bad at all. anyways my scarf covers half of it anyways so dnt mater. inshallah u will give up. i make a dua for u sis

i used to do my eyebrows until i found out that it wasnt right..its been over a month ive stopped they dont grow back..my eyebrows got some funky shape lol..inshallah u will stop..ameen.

Aslam o Alaikum wr wb,
YAa same Alhumdulillah i still have this thing cuz sum sisters they say u can like not make the shape but like just clean it and that we can pluct from between but its the hadeeth that we should look upon.
I'll tell u frm my experience InshaAllah i stopped them they dont look god if u llok closer at my face but u noe wot ALhumdulillah wen i think of the pain it has and to do it again n again its much Alhumdulillah better this way.
Also like who m i trying to please here huh???? thats the question i ask myself even if its no one and n just fot myself then come on even myself shudnt matter cuz how we should love Allah (SWT) and His Messenger more than anything InshaAllah....
so yaaa i guess that restricts me Alhumdulillah wen ever i loo at the mirrior but ofcourse u always wish u knew it b4 its better to tell our sisters that havent done them abt it InshaAllah...

Salam sis,
I stopped plucking my eyebrows ten months ago now,
and I'm really happy that I have made this choice to satisfy Allah (SWT).
Now I can go out without checking everytime if there are blushy or not, if I have to put make up to hide their catastrophic shape when you plucked them to much:D
Now I'm FREE!!!:hidban:

Think of the reward that goes with stopping dead in it's tracks the habit that you do...whilst Allah ta'ala knows how much you want to continue doing it...

I heard a wife is allowed to neaten or even trim and pluck her eyebrows to please her husband is this true or not?

im so glad i had the knowledge...i nvr started and my eyebrows look great! my mum gave up tho...nd wen they were growing back it wasnt a pretty site..but they look fine now...seriously after a couple of months no1 evn notices...its like u've been like that 4evr

I think that we should respect what it assigns to us, only Allah (SWT) knows what is good for us or not.

yeah...no need to start doing stuff like that...u'll just get in a habit...not good!.most people look fine without doing it anyway...or maybe they do it and i don't realise :eek:

We should be thankful and stick with the features that Allah's given. Shirk as we all kno is THE SIN that Allah never forgives. We dont want this shirk to stop us from going to paradise??? Do we? The punishment that Allah has set for those who even pluck one tiny hair is such that Allah curses that person! And from the curse of ALlah NO - ONE can save us! Can they? My advise to those sisters that pluck their eyebrows is to think twice.
Ask urselves...
"wots worthwhile?... to pluck the brows and to be under the mighty curse of Allah or to be patient and win paradise?"

if ur married and ur husband wants u to do ur eyebrows is it still not allowed? I knw u might say if ur husband is understanding and religious he wont ask u to do ur eyebrows in the first place but suppose if he wants his wife looking more attractive for him is there any harm in pleasing ur husband in this sense? Some advice would be highly appreciated

but what if the hubby didnt c his wifes eyebrows b4 they got married..mayb coz the wife covered them by her scarf or woteva..then dnt u think she is allowed to pluck her eye brows..coz she has to choose one thing...divorce or getting eyebrows plucked

No you are not allowed to obey the creation over the creator in any circumstance... even in matters such as "my husband wants me to pluck my eyebrows" (a very common question)
And if he divorces the wife over this issue then astaghfirullah I think he has done wrong in that, and he really needs to tawba cos it is not acceptable to pressure ur wife towards what is haraam and then divorce her if she refuses. Such a husband is probably not gna be good for her deen anyway..

Scientists have discovered that the plucking and waxing of eyebrows in women makes them more vulnerable and likely to get brain tumor. The reason for this is that behind the eyebrows there is a nerve which if constantly pulled causes brain tumor.
Allaah(swt) has a reason behind all his commands.
That theory seems a bit unlikely. The probability is probably very low.
As muslims, we do not need to justify the laws of Allah (swt) or insist they have reasons which our limited understanding will be able to comprehend.
I know it can be a means through which something can be explained to someone or make them understand, but really, the primary thing they need to understand is that this is a command from Allah (swt), accept it or be sinful.
