its not just makkah, there are many rural areas in the US that are not clearly defined

its changing the face of the world

you can pinpoint someone's house, i mean, in actuality, its not like any of us live in a hidden cave, one could always drive up to your house

its just that from a back alley in china, some kid can look at my house, is somewhat unnerving

India army boss slams Google Earth

Tuesday, April 4, 2006 Posted: 0738 GMT (1538 HKT)
Indian army chief General J.J. Singh.

NEW DELHI, India (AP) -- Google Inc's free mapping program on the Internet compromises India's strategic infrastructure and the satellite imagery could be used for military purposes by adversaries, its army chief has been quoted as saying.

Google Earth, an Internet site launched last year, allows users to access satellite photos that show some sensitive locations in various countries.
The site contains clear aerial photos of India's parliament building, the president's house and surrounding government offices in New Delhi. Clear images of Indian defense installations can also be viewed.

"These satellite images compromise our sensitive and strategic sites," General J.J. Singh was cited as saying on Tuesday by the Indian Express newspaper. "This would give advantage to our adversaries."

Singh said India was not the only country whose security was affected by the availability of the images on the World Wide Web.

Internet experts say the Google site uses information already available from public sources, and the images displayed are dated and not shown in real time.

"Google has been talking and will continue to talk to the Indian government about any security concerns it may have regarding Google Earth," the Press Trust of India quoted an unnamed Google spokesman from California as saying.

After Google Earth's launch, Indian President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam expressed concern about the Web site, warning it could help terrorists by providing satellite photos of potential targets.

He called for new laws to restrain the dissemination of such material.

does it show sensitive american sites and the white house?

if so, then tough tookie

but if america has its stuff blocked out, then google should have blocked out everybody's stuff

but then again, only america can have nukes, no one else can (no darkies, that is)

This an awesome program. Kaph posted it about 6 months ago. I agree with AbuM, it is a bit unerving. I haven't used it in a while (it can be a bit addictive). But I was curious...

Is Mecca blocked?

Jeddah is also blocked. I scrolled to Jeddah first. Coastal cities are easiest to find. Then scrolled east to Mecca. Both were grainy at the highest resolution. Then I lifted and scrolled over to Istanbul. Not Grainy. Individual buildings and cars clearly visible. What a beautiful city.

So then I scrolled back to Arabia and found that Riyad is also blocked. Strange that these cities are blocked. NYC is not blocked. The deserts of Arabia aren't blocked. Strange.

Check out Pyon Yang. Compare to nearby Seoul.

There is no view of the South Pole.

The view of the pyramids at Giza aren't as good as I had hoped.

The Golden Gate Bridge is fun to find.

Guantonimo is blocked. Havana is not.

My broken car has been parked outside for long time, and it wasnt there when I checked, so I got worried called home and they said its still there, so I dont think this satellite thing is correct. :S
