Salam Bros and Sisters,
I have hooked 4 computers ( windows XP ) through 5 ports switch. For the 5th and sixth computers, I tried to use one free port of that switch and another wireless router Linksys. The 5th and sixth computers have wireless adeptors.
Problem is the switch and router does not know each other while IP address is given ( such as 192.168.10.10, 192.168.10.20 etc.. etc..). The whole network is OK if the IP address of all six computers are on AUTO IP address, but it take tooo long time to access to computers. IP address of router is fixed by the manufacturers ( it is 192.168.1.1 ). Actually that Linksys router is for internet ADSL, but I just want to use as an additional switch or hub with wireless facility. Please help me bu throwing your knowledge.

Wa Alaykum as Salaam,

Ok akhi that is possible.

Problem is the switch and router does not know each other while IP address is given ( such as 192.168.10.10, 192.168.10.20 etc.. etc..).

Akhi set the wireless router to retrieve its IP through DHCP and make sure DHCP is enabled on the switch. There should be no problem because the wirless router will have its ip from the Switch, and enable DHCP on the router so it can assign local ip's from the same network to comp 5th and 6th.

The whole network is OK if the IP address of all six computers are on AUTO IP address, but it take tooo long time to access to computers. IP address of router is fixed by the manufacturers ( it is 192.168.1.1 ).

Akhi it can be changed.

Ok i dont know really..

Please help me bu throwing your knowledge.

InshaAllah continue posting so that we will know your exact problem.

Thank you brother, : How to make or change the switch to be enable for DHCP ? I can do it for router but cantdo any change to switch.

Next : How to change the IP of router ?

Thanks for the suggestions and I will try best meantime please suggest :
11. I have one server windows 2000 advanced server
22. Another Three to be hooked to that server through 5 ports switch with RJ 45 connectors. One port free to be hook for next one.
33. I have Linksys wireless ADSL routers ( but no ADSL internet avaialble ) which has one port for ADSL modam ( which I do not use ) and four port for RJ 45 connecters.
44. I have to hook two more computers with wireless network card adeptors.

What I did was:
11. 4 computers ( server and 3 clients works well through switch ) with exact IP assigned.
22. free one port on switch was connected to wireless router with cable.
33. Another two clients ( 5th and 6th ) try to hook the net work via wireless router which connected to switch by cable.

Result :
If all computers on auto IP the whole things works but tooo slow to access each other.
IF assigned IP numbers for 1, 2 3 and server , switch does not recognised the routers thus blocking to know the 5th and 6th computers through the router through wireless ( I tried even with cables to connect 5th and 6th through that four ports for cable available on router itself ).

Best Regards

So a couple of points. I hope this will help:

Switches don't usually have DHCP servers in them. A switch operates typically at a lower layer.

Are the assigned IP addresses in the same subnet as the linksys router and the wireless clients?

Assuming you are trying to build a standalone network, your set up should work. You could use DHCP just for the wireless clients only. And then assign IPs to the wired computers. That's fine. But you need to make sure you use the same subnet. And you want to restrict the range of DHCP addresses so that there is no conflict with the fixed addresses.

So for instance, if you want to use 192.127.1.x for instance, you might use 192.127.1.1 for the linksys router. And then 192.127.1.100-150 for the DHCP clients. And assign 192.127.1.50-99 or something for the fixed IPs.

What you are describing, if I am understanding it correctly, should work for you.

Thanks and great !! The subnet numers...I did not put same earlier, after your suffestion, I put same numbers to Linksys router and everything became alright.
Thanks again o all of you and Eid Mobarak!!
