Assalamu 'alaykum.
Dear friends, as a practice of alQur'an suroh 17.al Isro' ayat 66: "Your Lord is He that maketh the Ship go smoothly for you through the sea, in order that ye ay seek of His bounty. For He is unto you Most Merciful.",
your are invited to discuss with any of your opinion about this "ayat".

Please feel free to post your question and answer, as any discussion could improve every body knowledge.
My first opinion is: Indonesia as other countries are, is far from Makkah (the Holly land). To perform Hajj & 'Umroh, we need transportation. With airline we could arrive in several hours.
With marine/ocean line, would take several days, and we can use those days as a Ta'lim (learning) period as our preparation in knowledge.

Perhaps my topic doesn't get any reply because of our brothers and sisters don't have time to discuss. At the mean time I get reply by e-mail and I try to put it here while waiting untill some one has time to reply:

Thank you for your interesting e-mail.
I am sure your idea is a very good one.
I have a number of questions:
1 Would the liner only be used for a very short period each year. To be financially viable it needs to work more than that. The costs of a liner are high over a year.
2 Who do you think will own the liner? There are a number of liners available on the market. Would it be owned in Indonesia? Are there entrepreneurs who would finance this? Costs of crew and safety equipment etc are high.
3 Is there a business plan. It should be possible to find the costs of a liner and hence the costs per passenger.
4 Is the size right. A liner, even converted might take 2000 people, You would need ten liners. It would take a week to get there and back.
In summary I think it could be a great idea but a few questions like this need to be worked out
I hope this helps you
Kindest Regards
Dr Brian Gowans PrEng

Perhaps your're not getting any replies as you've posted in the "events in your area" forum.

If you want people to discuss something then post it in the "muslims" forum.:)
