I know this forum is a mixed forum, but I think you need to take more stringent measure to remind people who believe in a different islam than the true, original to preach their beliefs in the right section, or maybe not at all

In one of the articles in the islam section called 'advice to those who visit chat rooms', it was said:

'...Reminding the owners of “mixed-up” sites (sites which indicate confusion between Sunnah and bid’ah) of Allaah and of the fact that it is not permissible for them to allow innovators or authors of false opinions to spread those views through their site....'

The sects section has become a no-go area, it is full of fitnah, 'sunnis believe this' and 'sunnis believe that' and generally backstabbing other members etc.. and is misguiding to people who may not know of the relavant issues, moreover, it may confuse non-muslims and give them the wrong impression.

I just want to point this out, as i felt that esp lately, it is going too far, with posts relevant to the shias belief being posted in the general section, and with other stufff coming into the islam section.

Bintmasood,

I wouldn't be too concerned about giving non-Muslims the wrong impression. All it does is give us (or at least me) the impression that people are individuals, even if they belong to the same overall religion.

Are the different sects in Islam comparable to the different sects in Christianity (Catholic, Protestants, Puritans, etc.)? I mean, are most of the fundamentals the same while the more detailed things differ?

Peace

To be honest, I dont know much about the differences between the different christian sects, but I know there is a 'unitarian' sect or something that believes that there is only one God, and he did not have a son (i.e. Jesus is not the son of God) and others vary on which kind of bible they read or something

With regards to islamic sects, sects deviate on the fundamentals. Differing and splitting are two very distinct terms. By differing on the fundamentals, you have split. By differing on minor issues such as when to raise your hands in prayer, that is just differing in opinions. An example are the four schools of thought. They differ on minor issues, and are not sects as some people claim. we as muslims are advised not to strictly adhere to one.

Islam requires you to believe in the six articles of faith, Allah, the books of the prev. messengers, angels, messengers, day of judgement/hereafter and predestination or fate.

This is part our aqeedah, our basic set of beliefs.

Ill give you an example....say you believe in one god. To set up anyone else as divine and holy, and pray to them, and to ask them to intercede for you to allah, this is shirk. For example grave-worshippers. It negates your faith.

Even things like rejecting that there are any things such as angels can negate your faith, because we have been told there are in the quran. by disbelieving in the angels, you are disbelieving in Allah, because allah told u in the quran, which is his word, that there are angels, and their roles are pretty well-defined.

I hope u get the picture.

i agree with bintmassood here, the sect area is getting more and more frustrating on daily basis, the discussions get endless without any fruit, it instead spreads more hatred between the different communities. i ask the moderators if it is possible to remove that whole section as it is useless and bore nothing fruitless.
