Islamic Relief is helping the victims of Hurricane Katrina & Rita through out
Lousiana. Thousands of evacuees are homeless and are living in shelters and
other people's homes. Islamic Relief is helping the community by providing
support to shelters, individuals, and other organizations.

We are calling on volunteers to come to Baton Rouge to assist with:

- Delivering much needed supplies to neglected shelters
- Distribution of hot meals
- Working with other relief organizations to maintain supplies at our warehouse
- Cleaning up homes and local Masjids
- Plug into current Islamic Relief projects
- Talk to victims to assist with grief and trauma

We ask that volunteers provide their own transportation and Islamic Relief will
arrange for all food and accommodations. Please be aware that it is difficult to
find vacancies at hotels, so the sleeping arrangements will be at apartments
separate for brothers and sisters.

We are looking for commitment for at least 1-2 week spans, but any help is
appreciated if you can only spare a few days or even a weekend. Please provide
us with dates that you are considering to come.

Jazakallah khayr for the suggestion, but I believe IR is looking for volunteers from North America or Canada, since the costs of a volunteer leaving Africa and giving their services to this hurricane effort would be prohibitive to the individual (air fare, etc.)

But IR does have programs around the world if anyone is interested in helping the needy closer to home:

Islamic Relief works in two general areas: It collects money on the one hand and implements projects on the other. Islamic Relief therefore maintains two types of offices: fundraising offices and field offices.

There are nine fundraising offices which are situated in the following countries: Belgium, France, Germany, Mauritius, the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Islamic Relief has 14 field offices spread across different countries where we work, including Albania, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Bosnia, Chechnya, Egypt, India, Iraq, Kosova, Mali, Pakistan, Palestine and Sudan.

In addition, our charitable projects extend to almost 30 countries around the world, including El Salvador, Ethiopia, Jordan, Kashmir, Kenya, Lebanon, Madagascar, Mauritania, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Turkey, and Yemen.

As we move into the future, we hope that you - our donors and supporters - are an integral part of our growth. We invite you to acquaint yourself with our projects and help us expand our work even further.
