As salaamu alaikum!

I want to know the internationally acclaimed Qur'anic Reciters (Qurra') that have reign or are still reigning in the world of Islam. I knew very little, mostly the Egyptians, viz:

Sheikh Mahmud Khaliel Husariy;
Sheikh Muhammad Siddeeq Minshaawiy;
Sheikh Abdallah Basfar;
Sheikh Sa'ad Al-Gaamidiy;
Sheikh Abdul-Baasit Abdul Samad;
Sheikh Ahmad Bn Aliy, Al-Ajmiy;
Sheikh Sa'ud Shuraim;
Sheikh Abdur-Rahmaan Sudais;
Sheikh Afaasiy;
Sheikh Abdallah Al-Matruud;
Sheikh Ali Bn Abdur-Rahmaan Al-Huzaifiy
Sheikh Abdallah Ali Jaabir etc
I have forgotten the rest. Kindly post their names please, I need to know more.

Khair. . .! Thank you sister. I got to remember Sheikh Abdallah Al-Khayyat. . .good!

In fact I knew many of their names. A brother brought a book listing the names of all the modern Qurra', titled: Al-Qurra'ul Asri. Equally, one of the channels in NileSat, Al-Majd3 is the best source. Will look up at their names. That will require my time though.

ameen wa iyyak yaa akhi :)

Do you brothers like to vary alot which Qaari' to listen to? Sometimes I think it is easier to stick with one, for helping to memorise I mean. Because when you always listen for example to Surat An Nabaa' by Sheikh Sodais, then you become very familiar with his rhythm of reciting for that sura and u can try to imitate, to make it easy for u to remember...
what's your opinion?
or do you have any other tips on how to help with the memorisation?

Yes Sister, what you said is correct. One must stick to one particular Qaari, in order to avoid confusion. Likewise in the case of Tahfeezun Nazaree (memorisation by reading), one must stick to one Mus'haf, if not one finds it difficult to recall some verses lolcated in a particular page, due to the different versions he is using.

I used the word "must", because that is most popular trend. Though there are some that are highly gifted; they can use various Mus'haf or listen to various Qurra', and still have their memorisation intact. These are vary rare cases though.

Allahumma Aj-alnaa minhum!

Assalamualaikum wrwb, am new to the forum.i agree with both of you,its very impt to stick on to one qaari especially if memorizing is your intention.my all time fav is shaikh mishary rashid al-efasy and Alhamdulilah i ve been able to memorize lots just by constant listening with concentration.just memorizing aint enuf,we need to reflect on the meaning of the verses read and act upon it.

Well about the reciters in our time i believe i have listened to all or i keep listening almost everyday allhumdulilah most of the names from the list..... personally i prefer Nabeel Al Rifae and Ahmed Al Ajmee... and abu baker al shatry ... if i have to say something of my own perhaps on my list i see Nabeel AL Rifae on top... i guess few surahs recited by Nabeel Al Rifae are available on islamway.com to download or to listen ... and with little bit of research of learning and listening carefully about tajweed then some of my freinds coming from medina informed me that most of sheikhs over there advises newbees to listen to Sheikh Abdul Muhsin Al Kanakry .... the qiraat is available on islamway.com not the complete but a few and the shiekhs qiraat is available most of the time on saudi radio......

http://alafasy.tripod.com/ --> Not his official website, but has a good mp3 collection.

About sticking to one Qari..... I feel it does help in memorising, but the moment I listen to another Qari, especially Surahs which I've not completely perfected, I start fumbling, because of the difference of flow of words.
I'm trying to memorise Surah Al Mariyam now in Al Afasy's Qiraat.
btw.. Al-Afasy is pronounced 'Al-Affasee"
