The shaping of one's soul & character
is akin to shaping a piece of wood into a piece of furniture.
One may go out into the lumberyard, grab what lays around
rip the boards into their proper size and nail them together
allowing for the weary body to take rest upon the seat.

In today's world, all too often this is the craftsmanship with which parents construct their children.
Throw them together, rough edges and all,
allowing the splinters to stick out and poke anyone passing near-by.
The edges all look rough, the cuts are not straight and true, some if not all are against the grain.

A carpenter, even one who just wishes to take an interest in learning the right ways to work with wood,
first learns to study the subject wood and find it's flaws as well as it's good characters.
With the correct sanding and shaping, utilizing the grain of the wood,
beauty can be coaxed out of any piece of lumber,
even driftwood which has been cast adrift for many years.

One main lesson any woodworker must learn first is this,
young wood is pliable, bendable and easily shaped.
Harder, more seasoned wood, some which may have been hardened by a few drying seasons will need
more care and forethought in deciding how best to coax out the beauty which lays beneath that BARK.
