bro al-nasser- how will i know if its over-heating ? i can hear the fan working....(i think  )

Al-Nasser
17-08-05, 08:02 PM
sister....99% it is not the worm if your computer restart before it load windows.....maybe what the brother talk about is Blaster worm and it work after windows start.

the fan your hearing is your power suplly fan....the fan i am talking about the processor fan......i will find a utility for you to check its speed from windows.....there is a way to check it (together with the processor temprature) from the motherboard setup but it is not recommended to open motherboard setup because it may cause big mess if you make a mistake there

bios settings are what commands your computer to start when you press the button, it tells the computer to boot into windows, and from windows it starts your programs

your fan cools off the motherboard, if it gets hot, the computer could become severely damaged, or it could just shut itself off to keep it from becoming severely damaged

the motherboard is the brains of your computer, everything links into that so it can operate, thats the flat board inside your computer with a bunch of tiny wires and connections to it, if that goes, you have no computer

bill gates is the evil master of the computer universe
tux, or linux, is the knight in shining armor trying to dethrone bill

a worm is generally a program that can run in your computer and command it to do things, like shut itself off, its like a virus but has more power/commands, where a virus can be anything from a buggy program to malware designed to really create havoc to files, both are not good to have, i dont know anytyhing about this windows-worm

honestly sis

if you have the original windows cd, with the numbers and codes, and there is nothing major on your computer, i would wipe it out and start fresh

save the files you need, and start new

its usually the best way to make sure you dont have any worms or viruses (unless they are on some of the files you save)

and you get a chance to see how fast your computer used to run

there will be a small black icon looks like a "chip" in your statues bar (beside the clock)...right click it and choose "dash"....then look under "fan 1" "fan 2" "fan 3" and if the speed is "0 rpm" then the problem is that your fan is notcooling the processor

Salaam MuslimGirl,

By the looks of it, its might not be your fans. I tried the program on mine and I had the same response and my PC is open and the fan is working fine. Reason it probably is stating 0 rpm for the fan is because you have an old computer which doesn't haven sensors etc..
I could be wrong, but if your PC is afew years old then that explains the 0 rpm.

Anyway, can you answer the following questions

Does the comp turn off totally, or restart; If the second one, then it could be a system failure.

does anything strange happen before the computer turns off (i.e. a mini window pops up informing you that you have 30 seconds left before PC shuts down, so save your work etc..)?

Has your PC slowed down in performance lately?

have you installed any new programs lately?

Did you buy and install new PC parts?

It isnt your fault. it is most likely that as time passed by dust had built up in the computer. (That could of caused your fan to get stuck for some reason)

Or

Your fan just broke.. melt down.. or something else which probably has some "logic" explanation.

Just take your computer down to a "muslim" repair shop and try to sound all technical... and inshaAllah they will do their duty and wont rip you off inshaAllah.

Salaam,

Note: Make sure you vacuum inside your pc every year or sooo. To get rid of the dust, dust can add to heating inside the pc.

OK, I just conducted some research and have dicovered there is a new worm about which is shutting down/Rebooting PCs. This could be the cause.

http://www.cnn.com/2005/TECH/internet/08/16/computer.worm/

Its mainly targeted at windows 2000, but it can also attack early XP systems.

How to remove this worm (virus):

Click on the following link; http://www.microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.mspx

Then scroll down to 'Scan and Clean Your PC' and follow the instructions.

It might or might not work, but its definatly worth a try. :)

my comp jus blacks out, and a screen box says "No signal" and the screen turned blue ,saying something but i cant remember what. then for the both of theses i have to press reset.

i havent installed anything new as far as im aware but then im not the only pc user here.

this pc was jus given to me already built by my friend's hubbie, so i dont know anything about that bit, parts being bought etc.

my programs havent slowed as faras im aware.

Salaam,

I don't think MuslimGirl should vacuum the PC herself because she might damage a part. No offence. She could ask her friend's husband to do it for her.

Its important you do this, because its been 3 years and alot of dust must of accumulated on the components, which in turn will overheat the PC quickly.
