Here is a tutorial how to get Arabic typing working on your computer

http://zsigri.tripod.com/fontboard/arablpk.html

You may not need to follow the first four steps, it depends, so you can try missing them out and if not then go back and do the first part.

Insha Allah I hope it works for you :)

If you really can't get it to work, there is always the option of Online virtual keyboard

http://virtual-keyboard.imtranslator.com/

Hope this helps:
Shift+Y outputs Arabic alif maksura and Shift+F outputs Farsi yeh.

Diacritics and Tatweel

Hold down the AltGr key (= the right Alt key) to type diacritics and tatweel:

AltGr+A → fatha AltGr+Q → fathatan AltGr+I → kasra AltGr+E → kasratan AltGr+U → damma AltGr+W → dammatan AltGr+S → shadda AltGr+T → tatweel AltGr+O → sukun

Punctuation

Hold down the Shift key to type quotation marks, dashes, and decimal comma:

Shift+Q → left single quote Shift+N → en dash Shift+W → right single quote Shift+M → em dash Shift+E → left double quote Shift+6 → decimal comma Shift+R → right double quote

Hold down the AltGr key to type remapped punctuation:

AltGr+, → English comma AltGr+; → English semicolon AltGr+/ → English question mark AltGr+\ → backslash Type | with Shift+AltGr+\.

I'm trying to get this to work, but don't know which language to choose. There are so many different arabic lauguanges in the dropdown in control panel?

I chose Arabic (Saudi Arabia), but the letters are different from the picture anna2000uk posted...

for example I get a
و

when i click

U

So I'm guessing I chose the wrong arabic version?

This looks like you are not on windows Arabic, but you are on some Arabic typing choice which tries to go with the transliterations... like they put meem for m and stuff I would guess. See if u can install Arabic Saudia Arabia, from the windows choices, or Arabic Egypt... if not then you can just learn the position of the letters on ur one, but perhaps long term better to get familiar with the "real" keyboard layout bc if you need to type arabic in future, its likely to be in this layout

i followed the instructions here: http://zsigri.tripod.com/fontboard/arablpk.html

and then i set it to eastern asdf, but the keys were not like your image

so i checked in the help file for that arabic font i installed from http://zsigri.tripod.com/fontboard/arablpk.html

and it gave me the attached image of the keyboard layout which is what i have but its completely different from your image?

i've now tried arabic saudi arab and egypt with eastern asdf.

any ideas why this is happening?

only reason why i want it to be like your layout is because i was thinking of getting an arabic keyboard as they have the same layout as your image...

not much point me getting it if the layout is all different :D

but no worries. thanks for the help anyway. :)

It WORKS!!! Well almost, I just uninstalled that font software and used the windows default arabic software and it works. Only thing is I am not getting the arabic numbers, but thats no big deal!

Thanks for the idea...

It's quite simple,

A = Alif

B = Baa

T = Taa

etc etc

yeah without the Arabic keyboard you just have 2 memorise the layout
