Dispatches - Why Bomb London
Date: Monday 8th August
Time: 20:00 - 21:00
TV Channel: Channel 4
Continuing the New World War season. To what degree did we bring
the recent bombings - and possibility of further bombings in the
future - on ourselves? Why Bomb London examines the forces and
influences that may have combined to make the recent bomb attacks
on London more likely. The programme analyses whether a series of
foreign policy decisions and domestic errors, social and political,
made the transport bombings not so much a surprise as inevitable.
The programme investigates the divisions within the British Muslim
community that lead to many youngsters being drawn into a pattern
of extremism, and explains how, during the 1990s, the UK government
allowed known terrorists and extremists to settle in London, where
they used British freedom of expression to plan attacks abroad.
Inside the Mind of the 'Suicide Bomber'
Date: Monday 8th August
Time: 23:50 - 00:50
TV Channel: Channel 4
Continuing Channel 4's New World War season. With unprecedented
access to captured Palestinian suicide bombers, filmmaker Tom
Roberts gets to the heart of what makes someone kill and be
killed for their cause. Meeting bomb makers, failed suicide
bombers and their recruiters, his journey into the mindset of
these people reveals the reality behind the soundbite reporting
of suicide bombing and the impact "martyr operations" have on
the psyche of Palestinians.
