Asalaam alaikum wa'rahma t'allah.

On Saturday 30th July, Luton, an emergency meeting was held in response to the attack on the Muslimah. The Proposal and Action Points are given below.

----
Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahe wa barakatuhu

In the Name of Allah Al Rahman Al Raheem

Jazakullah khair for all those of you attended the emergency meeting on Friday evening - alhamdulillah there were a number of excellent points of feedback.

This mail summarises some of the agreed actions which need to be undertaken - please forward it to those who are sincere and serious about doing something practical.

As mentioned, we would like you to offer your services in any area that you feel you can help in at this stage. There is also a draft proposal attached for the Muslim Community Liaison Unit (MCLU) which would cater for some of the needs of victims of such attacks - please review and feed back your comments or queries.

ACTION POINTS
*Pursuing discussions with the police to establish why this case has not been taken further. Although there have been reports of this incident not being recorded the intial statement was taken by an officer on admittance to the hospital - nonethless we have asked the sister to contact the police again and re-register the case. A meeting will be arranged with the community liaisons officer on Monday.

*Locating the brother Muhammad who came to the rescue of the victim as he would play a key role as a primary witness - this can be easily done by putting a notice out in all of the local taxi ranks.

*Volunteers are required from sisters who would like to help victims of such crimes.

*Puchasing an accessible phone number to act as a 24 hour hotline for reporting such incidents.

*Volunteers are required for the Victim Support Unit who would be able to respond immediately as per the guidelines of the MCLU on reccurence of such incidents.

*Identifying and recruiting the help of professionals who can offer advice, support and physical help for victims of Islamophobic incidents. This would include solicitors, doctors, social workers, police, race relations advisors etc.

*Contacting local community and mosque leaders to ensure they are aware of this incident and utilise public platforms such as the Jumuah khutba to inform the community of the risk and basic safety advice as discussed in the meeting.

*Reporting this incident to the Commission of Racial Equality to ensure it is escalated appropriately and recognised as a religously motivated attack.

*Writing a community leaflet informing the public about this incident and related incidents while taking care not to exacerbate tensions or further unnecessary scaremongering. This should also include details about how to respond and points of contact for the MCLU and related services.

*Establishing a media office for issuing releases and dealing with the press.

*Helping to set up an website with safety advice, incdient reporting form, information about the law, local projects, facilitating access to professional advice, contact points and links to support sites etc.

Your immediate reponse to this email with suggestions for how you could help fulfil the above requirements/ suggest more issues is necessary - Jazakullah khair

Like the Guardian angels, muslims shud have a group of "trained" brothers who tour trouble hotspots during hours when trouble is likely to brew.

These people will not break the law, but show a presence to Muslims.

I think people forget that as civilians we do have toe right to arrest and if need be defend.

We had one in South London many years ago, and it worked a treat, but sadly due to money problems as well as finding people who are free, we had to abandon it.
