Wa'alaikum Salaam,

I'm not sure if anyone here is good at deciphering dreams, but I do just want to let you know that you don't necessarily have to have a dream as a response to an istikhaara.

An istikhaara, as Brother Salman mentioned in another post, is a supplication asking Allah for guidance. And this is usually done when someone is trying to decide between two paths (which must both be Islamically allowed): should I do this or should I do that OR should I do this or not?

The path which Allah knows is best for you is made easier, i.e. no real obstacles or difficulties. The other path is made much more difficult to achieve. Also, Allah (swt) Himself causes your heart to acknowledge the right path and so you will naturally be drawn to that particular choice.

I know of one situation where a Muslim couple was out to buy couches and they couldn't decide between two sofa sets. They performed an istikhaara, went back to the store again, and one of the sofa sets was already bought by someone else! :sub: They then bought the other one. :)

I'm sure you're going through a lot more difficulty than deciding which sofa to buy, but Insha'Allah, may Allah (swt) make your time easier and lead you to that which is right.

If you believe you did receive that dream as a response to your istikhaara, then you may wish to consult a scholar who would be more knowledgeable about interpretations.

Wasalaamu Alaikum

masha Allah @ doing istikhaara even for which sofa to buy. This was the attitude of the sahaba who used to turn to Allah's guidance through istikhara so much more than we tend to do. Nowadays it seems mainly used only for marriage reasons :p

Salaam Mo,

When you do istikhara, you should be expecting a change in your situation e.g. Change of feelings, Inclination to one path over the other, situations going with you or againest you.

I have done Istikhara several times, either the situation changes or my feelings change.

The below quote sums it all up;

An istikhaara, as Brother Salman mentioned in another post, is a supplication asking Allah for guidance. And this is usually done when someone is trying to decide between two paths (which must both be Islamically allowed): should I do this or should I do that OR should I do this or not?
