Assalaamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,
You may have noticed that the Action Alerts forum and back up and running again. It was merged into Links+Events during the relaunch but I've had it put back in the main section of the forum because I think it's a really important part of this place.
We all spend time on the forum debating and discussing things, sometimes arguing, hopefully always learning something new.. but it's all about talking in this place.
That is why Action Alerts is SO important and why I am urging ALL users to REALLY make the most of it and use it properly and regularly. It's the only part of the forum that is actually dedicated to ACTING and doing things for the ummah and for Islam rather than just endless arguing and debating.
We all need to start being more active in doing things for the ummah, in Islamic activism, in making our voices heard in every possible way, in standing up and making our presence felt and doing everything in our power for our brothers and sisters, for this ummah.
People often talk about protests and petitions and moan about how they're useless and don't achieve anything and how noone listens. In my view that is completely besides the point and such a defeatist attitude just breeds complacency and means that people don't bother to do ANYTHING.
We should all be doing what we can.. if we can't physically stop injustice, if we can't physically go and free our brothers and sisters from oppression or wrongful imprisonment, or fight side by side with them.. we can (and therefore MUST) at least SPEAK OUT, show solidarity and do whatever little we can do.
We HAVE to speak out and call for justice, we have to support them, we have to unite in doing the little things we can do, we have to build the spirit of being part of this ummah and being outspoken and determined to make changes.
If we all sit here and think "I can't make a difference, noone listens, there's no point." then this ummah will never come together and noone will ever do anything.
So PLEASE lets all fulfil our duty to our ummah and do WHATEVER we can and be as active as we can.. we may not see the benefit straight away, we may not see it at all in our lifetime, but inshaAllah it will be us who pave the way for future generations and it will be us who get the ball rolling, and we will have an answer when Allah(swt) asks us what we did for the brothers and sisters in Palestine, or Africa, or in Belmarsh.. and inshaAllah He will accept our actions.. and they will make a difference!
Use Action Alerts Forum!
* Sign up to mailing lists for Islamic organisations and post any alerts or issues in the forum.
* Tell people ways to help, people to write to, the correct channels by which to make our voices heard.
* Put up any notices about protests, demo's any other events related to Islamic activism.
*Check on the forum as often as possible and take the time out to actually DO the requested actions in the Alerts.
All Alerts and *events* related to activism issues should be put in the Action Alerts forum.
There is a slight overlap between the Links+Events forum and Action Alerts, but I really felt it was vital to give Action Alerts its own space despite that overlap. So use the Links+Events forum for other events like camps, talks and circles.. but if the event is to do with activism, it would be better in the Action Alerts forum.. so that all such issues are in one place and get the attention theiy deserve.
PLEASE make an effort to make the best use of this forum.. act as well as talk!
