I posted this in the poetry section, but thought someone here might appreciate it as well.

I have this hanging in my office:

The Cold Within

Six humans trapped by happenstance
In black and bitter cold
Each one possessed a stick of wood
Or so the story's told.

Their dying fire in need of logs,
The first woman held hers back
For on the faces around the fire
She noticed one was black.

The next man looking cross the way
Saw one not of his church
And couldn't bring himself to give
The fire his stick of birch.

The third one sat in tattered clothes
He gave his coat a hitch.
Why should his log be put to use
To warm the idle rich?

The rich man just sat back and thought
Of the wealth he had in store,
And how to keep what he had earned
From the lazy, shiftless poor.

The black man's face bespoke revenge
As the fire passed from his sight,
For all he saw in his stick of wood
Was a chance to spite the white.

And the last man of this forlorn group
Did naught except for gain,
Giving only to those who gave
Was how he played the game.

The logs held tight in death's still hands
Was proof of human sin.
They didn't die from the cold without,
They died from the cold within.

Thanks Chaotic1, that was too good to let go by without an acknowledgement.

Something to be learned Chaotic.
This poem (unfortunatly) speaks of human nature(which is the reason were all drawn to it). It is my wish we have raised above the barbarians & are ready to embrace peace without prejuidice. It`s not a matter of if, but rather when as we all finally evolve.
Thanks for the thought, Chaotic, this poem embraces daily human thought & needs to be brought to light.
peace to you Chaotic & to all.

An apt description of human nature Chaotic1. All the problems mankind faces have their genesis in the heart. I couldnt agree more. So how do you personally deal with it? (Whats the answer)

It strikes a chord of empathy and understanding. I really appreciate the poem and the advice therein, if one cares to look.

One day at a time, one person at a time, realizing that we're all human beings with feelings, emotions, thoughts, hopes, ambitions, etc. We all bleed red and all cry salty tears. I call it the way I see it, and only wish to be treated with the same amount of respect that I deliver. I can't solve the world's problems, but conversely I don't expect the world to solve mine. I take responsibility for my words and actions and expect the same in return. Nothing more. Nothing less. Maybe it's not the best outlook, or the worst, but it works for me.

Thanks chaotic. I challenge you all, why wait to be trapped by happenstance in bitter cold, show some kindness and respect to some human being today. Were we not created in the image of God? Men and women? The source of our dignity and the reason to repect men and women. Cheers!

Peace be upon you chaotic1,

Thanks for that excellent poem.

Kindness and generousity are good virtues that all humans should practice daily in our lives.

If you wish to heal your own sadness or anger, seek to heal the sadness or anger of another.

Peace,
