Can someone please tell me what the status is regarding a male who is born and brought up as a Muslim but converts to another religion.

I was told by a friend that one who converts to another religion, despite these circumstances, is still a Muslim but considered a 'bad' Muslim. Is this true?

If a born muslim and brought up as a muslim but converts to another religion is no longer considered a muslim. if he leaves because he doesn't believe in one god and muhammed being a prophet then he is considered a Murtad.

I don't remember exactly but i think he's punishable by death.

If someone leaves Islam he is to be punished by death? That seems a bit extreme.

It may seem extreme to us, but it keeps people from converting to other religions, thus keeping Islam the dominant religion in the ME. (I think the ME is the only place you can actually kill an apostate as you have to be under a khalifa). If I am wrong, please correct, thought I remember someone saying something like that.

It is also important to remember that Islam considers itself to be much more than what most people call a "religion", something that mediates between a Man and his Creator.

It is probably more correct to call Islam an ideology, that not only dictates between Man and his Creator, but also dictates a financial system, a political system, a judical system, etc. Islam thinks of itself as a complete system for all Man, for all times, for all situations.

If you think of Islam as an ideology, than leaving Islam is the same as becoming a traitor in other ideologies, which is quite often punished by death, as leaving Islam is punished by death.

The other interesting thing is to look at a list of things which take you out of the fold of Islam, effectively turining you into an apostate or traitor and condeming you to death.

I believe I heard an informed scholar say:

A Murtad (one who leaves Islam) is a non-Muslim once s/he declares that, and neglects the five obligatory prayers. A Muslim is urged to "talk sense" into the Murtad and try to bring them back into the Millah. If the Murtad, however, insists on rejecting Islam, he is to be deserted. If the Murtad, on the other hand, attempts to corrupt the Islamic society by spreading falsehood and converting people; he shall be condemned to death.

No offence but a "Muslim" who converts is not a Muslim. :nono: I mean no true Muslim would convert to falsehood. Think about it, how can a man who belongs to the most beautiful and wonderful religon turn to falsehood. Unless the so called Muslim is a Muslim only by name. Which is a real pity because he is incuring the wrath of Allah:saw: .

yeah that is true. or if they were born kids and were brainwashed (adopted) by christians and end-up being christians.


99% of the time those who leave islam if any are 99% ignorant of islam and don't know the religion nor practiced it.

The apostates, they must be killed until they go back from whatever makes them apostates and whoever even fights from them he should be killed.

the person who converts from islam is sanctioned to death ,but in islamic govt..

and u said it is bit extremist to kill a human being ,,for we muslims islam is every thing ,,we not onli prefer it to our life but also on all the creations ,,,,,what is islam it is the way of life ,not aword dat we speak,,i m astonished on the ppl who even having a furnished mind cant see the true light ,,but i also know this is happining since the creation of human being ,,,

our fight is not against human being ,,our fight is against devil and his system.so those who are on true religon they are our fellows and those who are not going to follow light we shall use all methods to bring them to the right way,,,,even we have to take extreme steps,,,,,it is duty given to us from our CREATOR

I sometimes feel that some people should leave Islam. They do more harm than good.

This is not a fatwa. Just a personal opinion.
