UK Islamic Events for Friday 27th May 2005
Assalámu'alaikum wa Rahmatulláhi wa Barakátuhu.
The purpose of this noticeboard is to advertise Islamic events taking place within the UK. These include lectures, regular circles, classes and sports activities, as well as one-off seminars, conferences and exhibitions. We also put up notices for accomodation, jobs, items for sale, Islamic projects, schools, counselling services, etc. Many of you will already be familiar with the noticeboard, having received weekly e-mails over the last year. We are open to all Muslims and you are welcome to advertise any event as long as it is Islamic in nature and does not harm the interests of others. We look forward to your participation.

SUPPORT YOUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS IN UZBEKISTAN
Over the last two weeks, Karimov, the brutal dictator of Uzbekistan,
has ordered the killing of over 800 civilians, including women and
children in the eastern regions of the country. Karimov has been a
strong ally of Bush's "war on terror", and his oppressive regime
has received millions in Western aid despite massive imprisonment,
torture and murder of political activists. The British government
also sacked their ambassador Craig Murray when he publicised the
case of Muzaffar Avazov who was boiled alive by Karimov.
All Muslims have a responsibility to use their voices, wealth
and strength against this oppression, to expose the hypocrisy
of Western foreign policy and to send a powerful message to
the vile Karimov regime.
Suggested Actions:
1) Contact the Uzbekistan Embassy in London and ask to speak to
Ambassador Tukhtapulat Riskiev or any other diplomats present.
In a frank yet courteous manner complain to him regarding the
actions of the dictator Karimov.

2) Contact Western companies and organisations that work with the
Uzbek regime. Some of those involved include British American
Tobacco, Oxus Gold mining company, and University of Westminster.
Contact them and ask why they do business with a regime that
routinely uses torture to interrogate citizens. Ask them if they
are willing to dispense with all ethical values and turn a blind
eye on repression by the Uzbek regime?

3) Raise awareness about the situation in Uzbekistan amongst
your relatives and friends. Tell them how tens of thousands of
Uzbek Muslims are heroically languishing in jail for practising
Islam and accounting the tyrant Karimov. These are some of the
real heroes of this Ummah in our times.
4) Raise awareness about the issue in the media. Contact radio
phone-ins and write letters to newspapers about events in
Uzbekistan. Focus on the hypocrisy of the West who support the
tyrant Karimov and the right of Muslims to determine their own
political destiny. Choose the best words and argue your point
politely so as to win over others to this point of view.
5) Remember the Muslims of Uzbekistan in your du'a. During the
battle of Badr, the Prophet Muhammad (saw) stood up all night
in prayer seeking Allah's help in the battle between unequal
armies that would follow the next day. In the decisive battles
against the crusaders, Sultan Salahuddin Al-Ayyubi (rh) was
busy day and night. His days were devoted to Jihad. His nights
were spent making du'a, crying and seeking Allah's help.

- Islamic Circles is a community-based initiative that has been running at
the Froud Centre since January 2001. We hold Islamic lectures and Arabic
classes on a weekly basis, and also organise with a wide range of regular
events and activities, including short courses, seminars, workshops on
issues relevant to the Muslim community, social gatherings like Eid parties,
matrimonial services and events and much more.
