Avatar size

Why is it when I look at everyone elses avatars 140x140 pixels.. they are less than 10KB... but no matter how much I compress this SMALLER jpeg, it wont get any smaller than 14KB... I always have this problen with vBulletin. Anmy admins care to allow this avatar for me or maybe give me an idea how to make the file size smaller?

I just reduced the file size to 9.8K and re-uploaded the avatar. (JPEG quality level: 82% - using Macromedia Fireworks MX)

have they released a MX version of Fireworks too?

i thought it was only flash!

I was using Adobe Photoshop and compressed it as far as it could go and could only shrink it down to about 14KB. I've got Fireworks but never installed it.. maybe I will! Thanx!
