Can't view them.
Would the university seriously consider closing an entire campus down based on whatever reasons anyway?
hmm correct me if im wrong but whats a university campus got to do with the massacre?
thats someting totalyl different from the horrible massacre that happened the other week or so...........
If this is the case..then people may aswell boycott every single Uzbek company based in UK and all........it dont make sense...
see what im tryna say?

Saj it is a popular form of protest amongst academia to boycott all universities and academic institutions supported by oppressive regimes.
Po-Pali's do this in regards to Israeli institutions and aademics.. e.g. Mona Baker et al (http://www.monabaker.com/).
The text on the leafet reads:
- The NUS Executive has condemned the Uzbek regime and has called on all unions to nreak links with Uzbekistan.
- The NUS Executive has banned the ex-Uzbek ambassador to London from speaking at Cambridge University in June.
- The University of Westminster has a campus in the capital of Uzbekistan. This partnership only endorses the Uzbek regime.
- By keeping the Tashkent Campus open the Vice Chamcellor and Rector can only be seen as allies with Karimov, a man whose name stands alongside Saddan Husein, Pol Pot and Stalin as one of modern history's most evil men.
- We demand the Vice Chancellor and Rector that he suspends the Tashkent Campus and distance it from the University of Westminster. We also demand that he strongly condemn President Karimov and his administration for its brutality and cruelty ove rthe past 14 years.
I think thats sufficient explanation.

The main issue here is that 1000s of Muslims have been massacred and it has gone totally unnoticed.
The issue is more to do with creating awareness, I cant remember the last demo which achieved something, demos and marches are a political stunt used to create public opinion about an issue.
Like the prophet (saw) called upon the people of Makkah, he stood on the Mount Saffah and asked the people 'if I told you there is an army coming from behind the mountain..' .. you guys know the story. There was no army coming, it was a publicity stunt in which he condemned the rulers of Quresh.
In the same way such demos are to create public awareness, since we are the ambassadors of Islam.

Unfortunetly I wont be able to make it down cuz I have to do give a jummah khutbah.
I hope there is a big turn out, because it looks shameful when the NUS excutive is condemning the Uzbek regime while the Muslims are silent :(

Mashalah sis, must remain steadfast :)
Political activism is the key :)
i c what ur saying but i dont see what benefit closing down a university campus would do? i mean whats it gotta do with anything
yeh i agree this is to create awareness but isnt the agenda to close down a branch of a uni campus down there?
im sure many thousands of muslim in Uzbek go to that university.thus closing it down will deprive them of education
Protesting and creatign awareness yes i agree with
but trying to close down a uni i dont see the benefit

That uni is headed by Karamov and the lives of any muslims is worth more than crap secular education for a few hundred. The Vice-Chancellor of Westminster Uni refused to close the campus despite it's direct links with the Butcher/Dog Karamov...
Demo was informative but scorchin'...
Turnout around 50...

At least you'll get a nice tan :p
Was the protest nice and loud? Is anyone going to go and have a rant at the Vice Chancellor directly?
I remember at our uni we had a disinvestment protest (in terms of the uni having money in the arms trade) ..we stormed the Vice Chancellors building, pushed past the security and ran all the way to his office to interrogate him. :D
He was in the middle of a meeting to we made a lot of noise outside it and eventually his PA agreed to let some of the organisers meet with him at a later date.

OMG, CW stormin' places and what not...
We were basically under his window and telling him to come down if he's a man... I believe he was called coward several times... Protest was loud and very friendly... We should appear on the front cover of the next issue of Salaam magazine...

Should keep it up.. write to papers etc alerting them of it.. get your lecturers on board and get them to get AUT on side too.. get your students union and NUS to really keep bugging them.
Pressure is the key.
