The Shurush Initiative is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the grave economic situation in the West Bank and Gaza through transparent microfinance and proactive employment.
HOW SHURUSH WORKS Shurush provides financial and technical support to Palestinian microfinance organizations that offer services including microcredit loans and business training. Further, Shurush works to ensure the transparency of its partner microfinance institutions. Serving as a bridge between concerned citizens of the world and the Middle East, The Shurush Initiative works to renew hope.
PROGRAMS Shurush's inaugural microloan program is a partnership with the East Jerusalem YMCA to support small, rural enterprise development and create job opportunities in the Palestinian small business sector. The pilot Rural Entrepreneurship Loan Program's clients are entrepreneurs under the age of 35 in rural areas surrounding Bethlehem and Ramallah. To date, five clients have received loans: a veterinarian, a restaurateur, two metalworkers, and an automobile technician. Click here to read more.
THE MEANING OF "SHURUSH" The word "shurush" means "roots" in both Arabic and Hebrew. We hope to work with you to plant the roots of economic opportunity in the West Bank and Gaza.
