There is one thing I always wanted to know, why is it that the somaal use the Roman alphabet for their language? I heard that the you used arabic alphabet originally but when the Italians invaded As-Somaal they changed it to Roman.
Is this true?

they ask for people to send in nasheeds but
1) it can't be outside the jurisdiction of islam
2)that it be of an earthly or faith-related benefit
2) it won't be discriminating against anyone on any grounds
3) it won't be nation or tribe- orientated, where by people curse each others tribes, nations etc)
4) it won't call for bid'ah on the people nor encourage it
5) there should be no form of transgression on anything
6) that above all it promotes and encourages islam and doesn't stand against it or insult it and that it doesn't change/lie about the sayigns of the Prophet (saw)

No it was actually changed into the Roman alphabet on 21 October 1972 by former president Mohammed Siyaad Barre even though there was a lot of opposition from the Islamic scholars in Somalia and abroad at that time.

Somalia's Ataturk?
He came into power in 1969 and ruled the country with a brutal dictatorship of material and moral destruction that lasted until 1991, by that time the country fell in utter ruin.

your are write manily somalians are arab descent and their language is 80% arabic words 40% is direct arabic while the others are arab words twisted and turn a little bit. THe reason was a dictator changed the language to latin alphabet making it an arabic alphabet will be a lot easeir since 90% of somalians are taught at a young age who to read arabic when going to madarisah for learning how to read the quran, i am a somalian

Jazakallah Khair bro Qassim!
I love Abshir Bacadle's poetry, he is one of my favs!
these are actually Islamic Gabayo - poetry!
there are some other styles, but this is the classical somali poetry - a single voice without any music!
the words are very old, its hard for to understand even for the adult somali.
here is one of my fav Islamic Gabay by Jama Kadiye :

OMG somalis are catching up ..... somali nasheeds, thats pretty cool. Except i dont understand hardly any of the words, i'm ashamed to say... guess not everyone speaks in somali slang:D well anyway the point of this bein that the spreading of islamic songs into many different languages, ma'shallah is truly amazin....anythin that helps people to understand islam..however big or small..
