The brightest and most pleasant day in history of mankind! Scented with pleasure, delight and happiness; showered under the flood light of sanctity and holiness. The day, when the idols trembled and went into prostration; when the high minarets of the roman empirical place fell flatly down, when the centuries old fire of the Persian fire temple itself smouldered to cold ashes.

Do you know this most glorious day of the human history?
It is the 12th Rabi l Awwal (the third month of the Islamic calendar) about which Allah Ta’ala swore and manifested its venerations by saying waddhuhaa, I swear by the day. In Arabic Rabi Ul Awwal there was born a man who was beautiful as one can imagine and whose life was pious, pure and blooming as one could think. THE DAY when the soul of all the springs was born, was the peak points of blooms of this world. What a pleasant, charming, and rejoice full occasion this was! The buds burst with joy into full blossom and the flowers were dancing, smiling and laughing. The earth humbly and silently lay waiting to greet him with its eyes open. The twinkling stars were looking through the heavens and the moon in full glory bestowed its whole light. Finally the night came to an end and then reappeared the brightened dawn.

HE WAS BORN and all the earth and the sky became filled with dazzling and sparkling light.

Don’t you know the name of such a great glorious person?
He came as a saviour if mankind and mercy for the entire universe. He was kind to the poor, compassionate to the grieved , chief of all the prophets and the most beloved holy prophet of Allah Ta’ala, his name is “MUHAMMED” (Peace be upon him). Muhammed means one who is admired unlimitedly. Surely, he was praised, he has been praised, he is being praised, and he will always be praised until the end of this world, and even after that. He found all of mankind wandering in the deserts of infidelity and guided them towards the straight path of their creator. He set the standards for vice and virtue and bestowed a sense of right and wrong. Picking up the thorns of hatred and prejudice, he grew the flowers of love and peace. Cutting down the chains of exploitation and slavery, he promoted the rights o freedom and free will. Edifying the morals he upgraded the social values and taught the manners of living. At the event of farewell Hajj, he put forth a manifesto of equality of human rights in his sermon. It was such a complete, comprehensive and definite sermon that more than 14 centuries have passed and no man has been able to add a singe word. The United Nations Charted of human rights is merely a feeble effort of copying that dignified deed. The man of modern age burning the fire of territorial, racial and linguistic prejudice can never deny the importance of the worthy saying of the Holy Prophet, Messenger of peace, which he said in his discourse at farewell Hajj in Makkah. He expressed, “There is no superiority for discourse at farewell Hajj in Makkah. He expressed, “There is no superiority for an Arab over a non Arab for a non Arab over an Arab; neither for a white man over a black nor a black man over a white except the superiority gained through God-consciousness, all of you are the children of Adam, peach be upon him “and Hazrat Adam Peace be upon him was created from clay.” Indeed the noblest among you is the one who is most righteous according to Allah Ta’ala. Now when racial, territorial and cultural conflicts are occurring in abundance man is deprived of peace and satisfaction.

One can well imagine the importance and need of celebrating the birthday of such a great person (MILAAD UN NABEE) sallaho alayhai wa sallam who struggled against all the exploitations and the man drowning in depths of transgression and ignorance can see right path and reach its destination. The man crushed under cruelty and oppression can be inspired for a continuous successful struggle. The wailing man with woe and pangs of hunger and poverty can get relief and peace.

At the splendid birthday (Milaad Shareef) of the saviour of mankind the young Muslims congratulates the Muslims of the entire world with the message, “O! Muslims by name, be Muslims by Aim. Communism has been defeated and capitalism is doomed to fail sooner or later. It is high time for Muslims to come forward and lead humanity. Edify your faith and action with the Holy Qur’aan and Sunnah. Certainly you will be dominant and successful.”

The young Muslims congratulates young people with the sweet knocking at the door of their hearts, “please come forward for unity, and join hands for Islamic renaissance. Thing of your shiny past and gloomy present situation and try to build a glorious future. First purify your own character and then become the torch bearer for others.”

Now you may ask the ways of celebrating this holy day. As you know Muslims have been celebrating this holy day in various manners since the very early stages of Islam. Some people like to sit together and recite the Holy Qu’raan in their homes and mosques. There are others who distribute sweets and fruts among children and the poor. Still there are some others who organise gatherings for seerat un Nabi or Milaad un Nabi at mosques or public places. There is no barrier or limit to express he pure passion of love of Rasoolalah sallallaahu alaihay wa sallam. So we see that many of the people come out on to the streets marching in processions, thanking Allah Ta’ala and praising the Holy Prophet makes no difference as to which of these methods you adopt. As long as the destination is clear and fixed then you can approach it by any one of these routes.

It is not customary or ritual to celebrate this historic day, but the purpose is to build up a tight bond of love with the Holy Prophet peace be upon him. If your action is not superficial and you really celebrate this day by depths of you heart, you will get the Love of Radoolalah sallallaahu alaihay wa sallam. It will make it much easier for you to practise Islam and stand against the stress of evil and be rewarded by the mercy of Allah in this world and the hereafter Inshallah. <!--IBF.ATTACHMENT_1498-->

Assalaam Alaikum Wa Rehmatullahi Wa Barakatahu!
just wanted to add this:

The Year of his Noble Birth:

According to the most correct opinion of the scholars, the Prophet sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam was born in the city of Makkah in the year of the Elephant (in the year 570 or 571CE), in the month of Rabee'ul-Awwal.

The Day of his Birth:

There is an agreement amongst the Scholars that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) was born on a Monday, since he (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) was asked about fasting on a Monday, and he said: "On that day I was born and on that day Revelation descended upon me." (Related by Muslim and Ahmad)

However, as regards the exact date of his birth, then the scholars have differed about this. Dispite the common belief amongs people that he (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) was born on the 12th of Rabee'ul-Awwal, yet the only substantiated fact regarding this date is that it is his (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) death date .

Imaam an-Nawawee (d.676H) - rahimahullaah- said: "There is on agreement that he was born on Monday in the month of Rabee'ul-Awwal. There is a difference of opinion whether this day was the 2nd, 8th, 10th or 12th day of the month - and these are the four most well-known opinions concerning this." 3

Events at the Time of his Birth:

Certain miraculous events are reported to have occurred at the time that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) was born. However, most of them are not authentically related, rather they are da'eef (weak) or mawdoo' (fabricated) and therefore cannot be relied upon as decisive proof; such as the narration which relates that some of the galleries of Kisraa's (the Persian King's) palace broke-up and collapsed, that the sacred-fire of the Magians died-out and that some of the churches on Lake Saawah (in Syria) collapsed and sank down. (Related by adh-Dhahabee who said: munkar ghareeb (rejected))

However, it is authentically related that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) said. "I am a result of the supplication of my father Ibraaheem and the glad-tidings brought by 'Eesaa 'alayhimus salaam. And my mother - when she bore me - saw that a light shone out from her, which lit up the palaces in Syria ... " (Related by al-Haakim and Ibn Katheer said: "Its isnaad is good and strong.)

Celebrating the Day of his Birth:

Imaam al-Fakihaani (d.734H) - rahimahullaah -said: "Celebrating his birthday has no basis in the Book (Qur'an) nor the Sunnah, nor is this action recorded from any one of the scholars of this Ummah; those who are taken as examples to be followed and who cling to the narrations. Rather it is a bid'ah (innovotion), which was introduced by the Battaaloon (a deviated sect from the Faatimids).

As regards to the origins of this newly-invented celebration, then some of the research scholars have stated that the first person to innovate this practice was 'Umar ibn Muhammad al-Mulaa in the city of Mawsil in Iraaq, during the fourth century, as is mentioned by the Imaam Abu Shaamah (d.665H).

He was followed in this by the likes of Abul-Khattaab 'Umar ibn Dihyaa: "who was employed in the west, then travelled to Syria, then he travelled to the city of Irbil in 'Iraaq, during the fourth century, where he found its king Mudhaffarud-Deen ibn Zaynud-Deen showing a keen interest in the Milaad (birthday) of the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam). So he composed a book for him called at-Tanweer fi Mawlidis-Siraajil-Muneer; so he recited this to the king who then rewarded him with one thousand deenaars."

Imaam Maalik (d.179H) - rahimahullaah - said: 'Whosoever introduces into Islaam an innovation, and holds it to be something good, has indeed alleged that Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) has betrayed his message. Read the saying of Allaah - the Most Blessed, the Most High: "This day I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favour upon you and I have chosen for you Islaam as your religion." [Soorah al-Maa'idah 5:3]. So that which was not part of the religion at that time, cannot be part of the religion today. And the last part of this Ummah cannot be rectified, except by that which rectified its first part."

Thus, had the practice of celebrating the birthday of the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) been something praiseworthy then: "the Salaf (the Pious Predecessors) - may Allaah be pleased with them all - would have instituted it. For they were the ones having a greater love and honour for Allaah's Messenger (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) and a greater zeal for doing good.

Indeed, the most perfect expression of love and honour for him is by following him, obeying him, carrying out his commands, upholding and reviving his Sunnah (guidance and example) - both inwardly and outwardly - and in spreading his message and striving in this, with the heart, the hand and the tongue. Such was the path of the Companions and those who followed them in goodness (i.e. beliefs and actions)."
