thanks to matthew, a reminder for me to look for a muslim name for myself. it is one of a long list of things i have to do. (and i dun wish to hijack his thread... LOL)

ok.... i have to admit that being chinese, i have been taking most of it for granted. ie. the culture, the history and the language.

most of it is mostly absorb from past environment and not actually knowing the root meaning behind.

so... all along... i tot my name literally means comparable to a bell.

because when i asked my parents about it when i was young, they jokingly said. ling ling... like a bell... (ok... i tot... what a name).

so... without avoiding the task i have at hand... i look up the meaning.... yes, i actually look up the meaning, for the first time in my life.

and to my surprise... it actually means....

bear in mind my name consist of 2 chinese character... han yu pin ying would be 'pei' and 'ling'...

and the meaning is....

pei - cloth ornament worn by all men (mankind)
ling - jades pleasant sound - tinkling of jade pieces

i never knew that.

well... i wish to maintain what my dad had intended my name to be, but in arabic...

something like... "pleasant tinkling sound of jade pieces"???

and dah, brothers and sisters.... Allah did know my heart's deepest desire all along...

these are one of the moments that i break down not knowing how to repay Him.

please help me with a name for my chinese name.

thank you all.

most grateful to Allah,
PiElle.

ps. i wonder what my dad will think of my new name...???

:)

Sis, more important than your name is your shahada.

You wanna take your shahada today?

All you have to do is testify:

I testify that there is no god but Allah and I testify that Muhammed is the Messenger of Allah. :)

Ash-hadu anla ilaha illallah wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadar rasool Allah

No time like the present to come into Islam sis :D

Say out loud and type it.. however you want really.

And welcome to the family

Is there anyone you could have there with you to witness it.. it may be nicer for you to have people you love and who have helped you to Islam around you.

But the main thing is making the declaration, whether it's online or off, whether anyone is there with you not..

Allah(swt) is there and witness to it and that is enough inshaAllah.

Every moment is precious sis and if you know the truth in your heart already, don't let anything hold you back.. none of us know how many chances we'll have and when it'll be too late and our time will be up.

Declare your shahada and your slate is wiped clean.. you can start a new life sis, as sinless as a baby and with a new direction: pleasing and obeying Allah(swt) and becoming closer to Him(swt) ..and a new path: the straight path of Islam :)

No need to be shy sis :)

You already know the truth.

This reminds me of my best friend.. on the day she was to take her shahada.. we spent the whole day with her being shy, nervous.. not being able to say it out loud.. she said the words wouldn't come out, she felt nervous, didn't know if she would say it right.. she knew she wanted to say it, and she knew she wanted to say it that very day.

But it took hours for her to get it out.. it was cute, LOL

It's a big step.. the most important decision and words you'll ever say in your life.. but there's nothing to be scared or shy about.

Grab the opportunity and cherish the moment you take it.

Sis PiElle.. please read this. It's taken from sunnipath.com (a very reliable site) and it's part of a fatwa from Muhammad ibn Adam al-Kawthari.

In the name of Allah, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful,

When one becomes convinced and has strong belief that Islam is the true religion ordained by Allah Almighty for all human beings, then he should go ahead and accept Islam without any delay.

The basic beliefs one is required to accept while entering the fold of Islam are as following:

1) God is One. He has neither a partner, nor a son or daughter. He is One in the true sense of the word that has no room for the concept of trinity, or for any other form of camouflage monotheism or a disguised polytheism.

2) The Holy Prophet Muhammad (Allah bless him & give him peace) is the last Messenger of Allah after whom no messenger or prophet of Allah (in any sense of the word) will come.

3) The Holy Qur'an is the last of the divine books revealed upon the blessed Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace), and all its contents are true.

4) The life in the Hereafter (after death) is eternal, where one will face the fate of his good and evil deeds.

5) All the teachings of the Qur’an and the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) in absolute and unambiguous terms are true and acceptable.

When an individual accepts these fundamental beliefs of Islam from the depth of his heart, and rejects those beliefs of his former faith that contradict Islamic beliefs, then he will be considered a Muslim.

As far as the verbal acceptance is concerned, the majority (jumhur) of the scholars of Islamic creed (aqidah) are of the position that verbal confession is a condition in order for one to be called a Muslim in this world, and on which judgments are passed, such as: Marrying, inheriting, being buried in a Muslim graveyard, etc…

Since having a belief in the heart is a hidden thing that must have a sign, therefore, whosoever believes with his heart (tasdiq bil qalb) and does not confess with his tongue (iqrar bil lisan) is considered a believer with Allah Almighty, but not according to the judgments of this world (See: Sa’d al-Din al-Taftazani on the creed of Najm al-Din al-Nasafi, P. 190, Dar al-Bayruti, Damascus).

Therefore, if you are convinced of the basic and essential beliefs of Islam, then you are already considered a believer according to Allah Almighty. However, for you to be considered a believer in this world, you must confess and express your beliefs by saying the Shahadah.

Conversion to Islam is very simple and has no particular procedure, like baptism, etc. It is not necessary that one seeks the mediation of a saint or priest, nor is it a pre-requisite to go to a mosque or to an institution for accepting Islam. One can accept Islam on his own. However, it is advisable to go to a learned Muslim (preferably a scholar) who can inform you about the basic beliefs of Islam and can teach you the concise and comprehensive words to express the acceptance of those beliefs.

Normally the following sentences are used for that purpose:

"I bear witness that there is no God but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad, (Allah bless him & give peace), is His servant and messenger."

"I have believed in Allah and His angels and His book (as they were originally revealed on His prophets) and in His messengers and in the Last Day and in the fact that all the good and bad destinies come from Allah and in being raised alive after death."

Therefore, you must hasten towards verbally accepting Islam. There are no conditions or pre-requisites for accepting Islam. This is the religion (deen) chosen by the Almighty, and is the only religion which will save one from eternal punishment in the Hereafter. Therefore, go ahead and convert to Islam at once, without any delay, hesitation or thoughts about the practical side of Islam.

Allah Most High says:

“The Religion by Allah is Islam” (Qur'an 3:19).

In another verse of the Holy Qur'an, Allah states:

“If anyone desires a religion other than Islam, Never will it be accepted of him; and in the Hereafter he will be in the ranks of those who have lost” ( Qur'an 3:85).

seize this opportunity Pielle, your brothers and sisters in Islam are with you and are hoping you will join us too on the path to the truth, to Allah(swt).

There isn't any better place or time to do this than now, there isn't any planning which you need to do, you just say it aloud, you feel it and know it already, just proclaim it now. :)

As Sheikh al-Yaqoubi said Monday night. The path is clear...turn right and go straight.

Sis PiElle, I don't think what we discussed is PM is an issue at all ;) ..don't wait 'til Sunday inshaAllah.

Fight the thing that makes you hesitate, because we both identified what it is remember? ;)

My friend took a long time.. I took a long time with hijaab.. when you do it in the end, you think to yourself, I should've and could've done it ages ago and you realise it was only shaytaan making your nervous, worried, hesitant.

I used to think "What will people I know say?" "What will I look like?" "What if I get fed up and change my mind?" "What if I can't keep it up?" "What if I do it and regret it and can't leave it?" "What if I miss being the way I am now?" "What if I don't like it?" "What if I'm not ready?" ..and think up a million reasons to wait and stop and not take that step to obey Allah(swt) better.

Afterwards I thought.. Wow, all that time wasted in thinking.. it hasn't that hard, I could've done it earlier :)

Fight the whispers! :D

 Allahu Akbar

If I was you I wouldn't want to lose it.. I'd keep it :embar: and maybe take on a new surname that has an islamic meaning?

I guess it's something we can think about and keep idea's coming in.. changing your name isn't as urgent, so we can keep thinking about it until we come up with something you like :)

Changing your name might cause all sorts of confusion. If your name hasn't got a nasty meaning there is no need to change it. If you want a Muslim 'cunya', tag a Muslim name onto you name or take a name preceded by Umm/Ummu. Ummu Shahid, or Umm 'Abdullah, for example, are nice cunyas to be known by

Matty it's in the spirit of Islam to be humble and choose names names that repesent your servitude to Allah(swt) as opposed to call yourself The Emporer or The King.

Muslim narrates, on the authority of Ibn `Umar (ra ) in a marfoo' form: "Allah (swt ) will fold up the heavens on the Day of Resurrection and then He (swt ) will take them in His right Hand and say: "I am the King, where are the tyrants? Where are the arrogant ones?" Then He (swt ) will fold up the seven earth and take them in His left Hand and say: "I am the King, where are the tyrants? where are the arrogant ones?"

While `Abdullah b. Anis reported that the Prophet - sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam - said: "Allah will gather the creation on the Day of Resurrection barefooted, uncircumcised, naked and free from all bodily defects. He will call them out with a voice that will be heard from afar as it will be heard from near, saying, "I am the King, I am the Judge."" The scholars have reported this and al-Bukhari cited this as evidence.

AbdulMalik sounds like a good name but i am looking for a name with 7 letters and starts with a "m" because "matthew" has 7 letters so far im likeing "mustafa" and "mansoor" I like matatda too but if matatda isnt arabic then i want to change it.

I wonder what AbdulMalik means in arabic

i know mansoor means victorious

and mustafa means chosen one

maybe i will change it to mustafa then when im 100% muslim i will change it to abdulmalik :)

WOOOOHOOO!

Mashallah! Allah Hu Akbar!

Wow sis i never knew you where so close to converting?! Now you have to tell us you story (if you want that is!) of how you came to find Islam. I love those tales :D

As for Abdul- _______ Adbul means slave of and is normally follwed by some word which basically means Allah.

I think Mustafa is a good name Matthew. I didn't know you were converting either!

However the name is irrelevent so long as 1> it is not anti-Islamic, or blasphemous, and 2> you like it. I think the majority people actually enjoy chooing a new name but it is not neccessary.
And also CONRGATS TO SIMMY for getting past the dreaded 1000! you may join up to the addicts meetings as soon as you come to terms with your addiction.
