</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><!-- E IIMA -->The US has charged three British men with terrorism offences over alleged surveillance of major public buildings in New York, Newark and Washington.

The three men are already in custody in the UK, facing similar charges.

Dhiran Barot, 32, Qaisar Shaffi, 25, and Nadeem Tarmohammed, 26, all of Willesden, north-west London, were arrested in August 2004.

They face possible life sentences over charges that they plotted chemical or radioactive attacks on the buildings.

The men, who are already due to face trial in the UK, could face extradition to the US.

But any extradition application would be delayed until the conclusion of the British trial and any resulting sentence.

The US Department of Justice unsealed an indictment containing charges broadly similar to those levelled against the three men in the UK last year.

The three are accused of carrying out surveillance of the New York Stock Exchange and Citigroup buildings in New York, and the headquarters of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund in Washington.

The Prudential Plaza in Newark, New Jersey was also allegedly kept under surveillance. The discovery of the alleged plot prompted US authorities to drmatically increase security around the buildings. Armed guards and anti-terror troops were dispatched to the streets of New York's financial district.<!-- E BO -->

If they weren't attempting surveillance...what in their right minds were they doing?

What utter drivel and hog wash. It is increasingly the case now that if you are brown skinned, beareded and in a group of 3 or more in and around London, you are already guilty of collusion and it does not take the authorities much effort to detain you under the 'prevention of terrorism act'. Guilty until proven innocent
Now, Japanese tourist beware - no cameras are allowed in the capital, in case you inadvertently point them at an installation that is sensitive. So, please do not bring your devices to Buckingham Palace or anywhere near the Houses of Parliament.

What next in a 'free' democracy? Quite what the Mayor of London talks about protecting 'our way of life' baffles me completely. Perhaps what he means is a society where a group of 14 age teenagers rape 12 year old girls in a public park and a Deputy Head raping and murdering his step daughter. This is the way of life, which he is trying ever so hard to defend and protect. So be it

What utter drivel and hogwash!
