Oh and I also love "Children of the world" InshaAllah actually soon me and a few other sisters are going to sing it for our Muslimah-Youth-Group in our mosque, hehe thats going to be nice inshaaLLAH.:dogrun:
I have Dawud Wharnsby's Alhamdulillah
I'm just a rock, and everyday I sit and watch the sky
I sleep here in the sun and rain, and do not question why
I don't want to be a bird, 'cause as rocks we're never meant to fly
But you can sit and rest on me when you pass by
Alhamdulillah (Praise be to Allah), Alhamdulillah I'm a rock
And that is all Allah asks of me
Alhamdulillah, Alhamdulillah I'm a Muslim
And there's nothing else I'd rather be
I'm just a tree and this is the only life I'll ever know
I'll bow my bows and worship whenever I feel the wind blow
And my purpose in life is to grow and Allah says grow
And be a home for the birds and shade for folks below
Alhamdulillah, Alhamdulillah I'm a tree
And that is all Allah asks of me
Alhamdulillah, Alhamdulillah I'm a Muslim
And there's nothing else I'd rather be
I'm just a person and my life is full of opportunity
I can travel through the world, over land and over sea
But will I choose the path of Truth, or a path to misguide me?
Sometimes I wish I had a simple life, just like a rock or a tree
But Alhamdulillah, Alhamdulillah I'm (I@ma) a person
And Allah has given me a choice that's free
So Alhamdulillah, I choose to be a Muslim
And there's nothing else I'd rather be
Alhamdulillah, Alhamdulillah I'm (I@ma) a person
And Allah has given me a choice that's free
So Alhamdulillah, I choose to be a Muslim
And there's nothing else I'd rather be
No there's nothing else I'd rather be

they should be giving them out for free
they should be giving them out for free
if it was free to record, free to make CDs and free to distrubute CDs then giving CDs for free would be feasible. But it's not unfortunately. Time is money as well and the amount of time and effort it takes to make audio recordings and CDs is immense.
Please respect this and support the Muslim artist's by buying their CDs.

surely if they were doing it for the sake of Allah, they should either do it for free or not charge us as much as a music cd costs?
They should get real jobs and do this as a hobby- how much surely can it cost? i know people who have recording studios in their back yards and you can re-writable cds for a small amount of money- so if not free why not cut at least 25% of the price, cause the fees are extortionate

If you would really like a breakdown of costs then I can give you one. Keep in mind that these 'backyard recording studios' do not deliver a clean enough sound as a top notch studio.
Just to give you an idea, i personally keep one hour of studio time for each song that i record. this is to make sure that at the end of that time the song will sound good and have no glitches whatsoever. Now an album with 12 tracks would need a minimum of 20 hours of studio time. this includes recording time, editing, mixing and mastering. Recording studio prices range from 15-40 quid. You can do the maths.
Aside from the recording costs there's the costs of designing the art work for the CD, having the CDs phyiscally produced and all the advertising costs.
Then after the CDs are made there's the cost of distributing them in shops (mostly travel costs), having release events set up (includes sound system costs, security costs, stage setup costs, venue hire costs etc)
Apart from all the costs you have to understand that not all the money that you pay or the CD goes to the artist
To give you a rough breakdown of how the money is distributed:
Say you buy a CD for 8 quid at the shop, the shop would have bought the CDs at say 6.50 from the distributors to cover up their costs.
The distributers would take roughly 50p on each CD to cover up their overheads.
So that leaves 6 quid.
Now if the artist is signed up to a record label (which the majority of the big artists are) then that 6 quid is divided much further than you would expect.
Most major and independant record labels would not give more than 20% of the gross income to the artist. so at least 80% of the money goes to the record label before it gets to the artist. 80% of 6 is 4.80 quid. which leaves the artist with 1.20 quid. Now that 1.20 is split on the artist, producer and manager. The first cut always goes to the manager of the artist. A rate of 20% would be safe to specify. This is 24p, which leave 96p for the artist and producer.
The next cut of money always goes to the producer. Depending on the level of input by the producer on the album production, this cut can range from 20% - 50%. Lets take the average amount and say that the producer gets 35%. This is 34p, which leaves only 62p for the artist.
So for each CD that you buy for 8 quid, you can expect an average of only 62p to go to the artist.
I know this amount sounds ridiculously low, but that's just how the music business is.
So please, please buy original CDs so that our artists can continue to make new material.
Any questions are welcome

thats why they shoud get a real job, you could easily fit this in during your time off.
if it was normal music, i would understand the need to buy it; but whats with the whole " you van be enlightened but you got to pay for it?"
if it was a lecture or something worthwhile you could get your moneys worth i would understand- but stuff like the other day i paid £10 for 25 minutes worth of nasheeds by Dawud Wharnsby Ali and another £10 for yusuf islam and kids (also 25 minutes)
fair enought pay but not that much- it aint about supporting , cause all you need is to cover money for recording time and all that you mention which you could get back by selling about 20 cds (if £10 each then= £200)
More than 20 people buy the cds at least a few thousand do
so when you put it like that- its a rip off
why should we support our artists to rip us off?

Whether it's worth it or not, that's each individual's personal perception.
And no, selling 20 CDs will not cover costs. If you read the breakdown of costs in my previous post you will see that on an £8 CD, the artist will only end up receiving an estimate of 62p. So selling 20 CDs will only have the artist getting £12.40.
If you really wish to experience the difficulties and costs involved in making an album, i suggest you try making one yourself.

Salaam- Sophiya i just wanted to say that I know Brother Dawud personally and, yes, this is what he does for a living...because it is his passion in life. I don't think you or I or anyone has a right to tell him that he should get a job and just do this for a "hobby". He is booked TIGHT every month of the year, performing and giving speeches year- round. When he is not on the road, he is tracking vocals. He is working on several projects at once, and a lot of what he earns goes towards his da'wah efforts. Please don't discourage his noble efforts.
