Tonight, I would like to discuss : Common Human Decency, or lack there of;
In every Religion there has always been instilled a sense of Common Human Decency.
It is what makes a people strong and proud or weakens them, and shatters their existence into war-torn,
hatred spewing venom filled, vile lack there of;
How many of you reading and posting on this forum can actually say that in your personal life,
the thread of common human decency is vibrant and strong in your community?
Can you say that you, personally practice at being an example for others in fostering
common decency among all you meet?
If I could ask, please leave a post on how "common human decency" plays a role in your life, or lack there of.

In every Religion there has always been instilled a sense of Common Human Decency.
In religions and in the basic life's lessons that we learned at our parent's knees.
It is what makes a people strong and proud or weakens them, and shatters their existence into war-torn, hatred spewing venom filled, vile lack there of;
And it is strengthened further when they actually apply what they believe in, into their everyday lives.
How many of you reading and posting on this forum can actually say that in your personal life, the thread of common human decency is vibrant and strong in your community?
Strong and vibrant here if you look at what individuals do, but sometimes when you look at the big picture it is difficult to see the effect.
But then the world and it's peoples change one heart, one mind at a time.
A truly underground movement.
Can you say that you, personally practice at being an example for others in fostering common decency among all you meet?
I try.
I succeed more often than I fail and I think that is what Allah (swt) is judging.
If I could ask, please leave a post on how "common human decency" plays a role in your life, or lack there of.
Common human decency plays a role from the moment we are born, when our parents love and provide for us unconditionally.
From that bond we are taught to extrapolate the behavior we receive onto every relationship we develop in our lives.
Any morals that they teach us, whether by example or from religious beliefs adds to our knowledge of decency...the Right Thing To Do.
Even if you were missing some goodness in your own life, you would gain by osmosis the kindness and example of most people to be able to learn the lesson of Common Decency.
Of course, some reject that lesson.
And some know the lesson well, but are selective in it's application.
Most of us fall in the latter category at one time or another.
If God wills it, we manage to improve our batting average.
In my own life I use deceny with my sons, with my family, my community, the people I interact with everyday and the chance encounters with strangers.
It is probably at work that I use Common Decency most frequently. Not as part of the job description, but because it is inate in me to be helpful when I see a need that I can fill. We get quite a few customers in their 70's and 80's and it is amazing what a little kindness does in their lives. They seem to crave the human touch, not a physical one especially, but through small talk, the taking of time with their requests, and the development of an actual friendship. My boss has the same relationship with them, though he also makes them laugh. Our store then becomes not just a place to pick up a few groceries, but a place to pick up some warmth, some respect, some sense of belonging.
And all of us benefit from the experience.
It may be difficult for some to believe, but I am much nicer in person than when I am provoked on the Internet.
Inshallah I will learn to act, instead of react in my interactions with people.
"No one of you is a believer until he desires for his brother that which he desires for himself."
"What is hateful to you, do not to your fellow man. This is the law: all the rest is commentary."
"Do to others as you would have them do to you."

Hello PiElle,
Thank you for your reply, although I find it a bit confusing.
First, you reply "In every Religion there has always been instilled a sense of Common Human Decency.
eh? every religion? my parents has instilled in me some sense of common human decency and they are not religious at all."
But, in the next response you say, "It is what makes a people strong and proud or weakens them, and shatters their existence into war-torn, hatred spewing venom filled, vile lack there of;
no, it is their faith that makes them strong."
The initial question was not to the exclusion of Atheists or Agnostics but, you replied that your parents have common human decency despite being associated with a particular religion.
The second portion, I state that a sense of common human decency is what makes a people strong, and yet you respond that it is their faith which does that.
Where does that leave your parents in the grand scheme of things?

It must be a nice and rewarding experience to live and work in a community
where you have daily contact with your neighbors.
I wish I could share those feeling :(

Well, I've been thinking of retiring, maybe I could recommend you for my old job?
How good are you at drawing people out?
Making them feel at ease?
Interacting instead of just reacting?
Hello PiElle,

Hi Stanley, Thanks for your reply. hmm... i'll try my best to clarify myself here....
First, you reply "In every Religion there has always been instilled a sense of Common Human Decency.
eh? every religion? my parents has instilled in me some sense of common human decency and they are not religious at all."

the "common human decency" i learned is from my culture, starting from my parents. which is respect, obedience, filial piety, education etc.
my question to you, stan, why do you associate "common human decency" with religion?
The second portion, I state that a sense of common human decency is what makes a people strong, and yet you respond that it is their faith which does that.
one has to have faith in their beliefs (here, it would be common human decency) in order to be strong.
Where does that leave your parents in the grand scheme of things?
dude, my life's given to me by my parents... they have instilled in me "common human decency" and now with islam, my faith in both will make me stronger.
Are you confused with "common human decency" and "religion"?
