AoA sis Peas,
I thought Yakhni was like any meat soup e.g. chicken, lamb etc...?
I think it's usually made for people when they're unwell or have had a baby etc. My mum made it for my brother's wife when she had my niece.

That's not yakhni.By the way.Mutton r chicken & only water.Boil them For half n hour .The rest water will be yakhni ahh don't forget to put black pepper in that.........Understand...............:D
Pilau Rice.....is yakhni no no no:nono: :nono: :nono: :rofl1:
Yakhni is just soup as far as I know.
Although sometimes stock (veg stock, chicken stock etc) is also referred to as yakhni.

I thought Yakhni was an arabic term expressing anger. An exclamation........as in "Yakhni!"
wow yakhni in arabic means something completely different too..!! In terms of food!
Not sure about the arabic part soul, will ask dad though, I know it means one thing realted to food but nothing related to anger! Maybe in different dialect.

11-01-06, 09:45 PM

Nah, nah man- you all got it waaaaay wrong it pilou rice like bro Seven said, it aint no Arabic word nor some soup dish its pilou rice with meat/ chicken thats sooooo tasty.
Its usually made on special occasions like Eid or when guests come round but round ours we call it Akhni not Yakhni. :D
Some Arab bros say Ya'ni or Ya Akhi not Ya Akhni.
Close but no cigar!
Yakhni is yogurt.
Well, being a Pakistani, in our house yakhni definitely IS NOT a form of pilau.
It might be different for the Bengali's and Guji's
Al-Irhaab
12-01-06, 01:58 PM
these bengalis and these gujjeris trying to tell us what food is
they probably dont even know what plau is...
abu h... if ur saying that yakhni is one form of plau then what is the difference between yakhni and normal plau... the answer is that meat stew thing that you pour over it... that is what yakhni is...
you can also just drink it... its very good for bones... and for married men
Aye, you tell them Al-Irhaab. Pilau is yakhni..
Yakhni = stock (be it chicken, veg, meat). You pour that over rice (if you want)
SoulAsylum
12-01-06, 02:18 PM
Right........so Yakhni is thick meat soup of chick/veg and stock?
Cool....sounds beefy
Us gujis have another name for Yakhni.......but essentially its the same thing.
Al-Irhaab
12-01-06, 02:30 PM
you..........trying to tell us gujis...........what food is!!
We know all about food.
Pilau is rice.......so there!!
look we know all u gujjeris know is dhal and rice  but plau is not just rice its rice cooked in a specific way as opposed to other types of rice like biryani or saadha chaaval...
only food gujjeris like is dhaal chaval i mean theyll be in jannah and be like yo boy where my dhal chaval ill show u kem chow...
Yakhni in pukhtu means cold :p

Look you fake wanna bes you wouldn't know the difference between any form of curry or rice soooo keep your gobs closed (unless you munchin' on the food). Us Bengalis invented that curry and rice food and them blinkin' Indian took the credit- Akhni is pilou rice but with the meat cooked within as opposed to the regular plain pilou rice dish (fulab) whereby you add the curry you prefer whether meat or rice afterwards- kalas.
You lot are nuts- for real man- you drink curry (we call it zool/sheerah/salom) like its Evoca cola or something and think its good for your boned and if your hitched.
Normal plain old rice is Baathe and uncooked is referred to as Sowl.
Pilau is yakhni..
Aye thats what I'm trying to drill into you lot- pilou rice dish with cooked meat is Akhni but minus the meat is known as Fulab- sooo now you lot know, also missy you can now quit your lookin' up, use the right terminology, and cook Akhni for the dudes in your place til you drop.:D
only food gujjeris like is dhaal chaval i mean theyll be in jannah and be like yo boy where my dhal chaval ill show u kem chow...

Ok.........dhaal chaawal is defintely the most popular dish amongst most gujis...but not every guji.
Ir haab........some of us gujis culinary tastes reach above the typical boring dhaal chaawal

lol ... well over here they had an offer on rice.. and the asians went crazy, they were buying buckets full, so tesco had to limit the number of bags per family - they even kept the offer running longer so people wouldnt rush to get the last bag - also taking into account health and safety issues..
