I have a Pakistani friend who is happily married to an Arab. She met him whilst working for Emirates.
Also, have a white friend whose husband's Arab...
and my brother married an Arab girl and he's not an Arab guy...

there is no basis for this in Islam, aslong as they are both muslim it doesnt matter about which country/continent etc they are from, although I know people who feel for cultural reasons it is better to marry from their own country.
Personally i dont feel like that, but thats up 2 them, although when you hear of parents saying 2 their children they have 2 marry someone one specific village in pakistan (for example) you start to think subhanallah this is quite crazy, and also i dnt think its fair when ppls parents make this condition, if the son / daughter is ok with marrying from a different country, and the suggested wife / husband is ok... it is better if the parents agree to it

Well, I am east-european and my husband is an Arab.:) And I know many cases in which Arabs marry non Arabs.

I absolutely agree. Thanks Anna for that post. Islam knows no boundaries.
yes if one wants to continue the culture within the families and no if one recognise and respect individuality. :-)

I've read somewhere that arab women or her wali can object to her not having to marry a non-arab. I believe this is the case for Shafa'is. Can't find anything for it right now.

it's not just arab women's parents it's everybody's parents. it's good to listen to the advice of your parents they know what is good for you you can atleast show respect for themby listening at the time of decision making (marriege)

Muslim men can marry non-muslim women only if they are believing women of the book, which is christians and jews. However, the women must be true believers and chaste. As for those Christian/jew women who have had sex outside of marriage; it is impermissible to marry them.
To any woman who doesn't believe in God, God's message and doesn't practise any religion at all, the "nikaah" (marriage) will be INVALID and according to "shari'ah" (Islamic Law); such a couple is involved in sin.
(Lawful unto you in marriage) are (not only) chaste women who are believers, but chaste women among the People of the Book revealed before your time, when you give them their due dowries, and desire chastity, not lewdness, nor sectret intrigues. If anyone rejects faith, fruitless is his work, and in the Hereafter he will be in the ranks of those who have lost (all the spritual good)." [Surah 5:5]
"People of the Book" refers to the true followers of the religions who received God's message in the form of teachings by Prophet Moses (AS) and Prophet Jesus (AS) before Islam. However, the term "people of the Books by no mean refers to the present Torah or The Bible which were written by various authors decades and centuries after their respective Prophets.

Hmmm, my question is more of culture than religion but i believe that any muslim man or woman should marry a muslim, there's absolutely no other way. Culture and tradition can be changed but rules made by Allah,.... we absolutely have to follow.
I, personally, have come across very few cross cultural marriages.
Most marriages I know of, individuals have remained within their own cultural circles (more to do with ethnic background than culture per se)

my last post on this thread was only a comment on: "muslim male can marry a non muslim female but a muslim female can't marry a non muslim male." which i comment on again as Shaolin's-Finest already gave an explanation ! :) it's also not common for arab women who are not muslim to mary non arab men ! :D
