There was a rich merchant who had 4 wives. He loved the 4th wife the most.
He adorned her with rich robes and treated her to delicacies. He took great care of her & gave her nothing but the best.
He also loved the 3rd wife very much. He was very proud of her and always wanted to show her off to his friends. However, the merchant is always in fear that she might run away with some other man.
He too, loved his 2nd wife. She was a very considerate person, always patient & in fact was the merchants confidante. Whenever the merchant faced some problems, he always turned to his 2nd wife, and she would always help him & tide him through difficult times.
Now, the merchants 1st wive was a very loyal partner and made great contributions in maintaining his wealth & business as well as taking care of his household. However, the merchant did not love his first wife & although she loved him deeply, he hardly took any notice of her.
One day, the merchant fell ill. Before long, he knew that he was going to die soon. He thought of his luxurious life and told himself "Now I have 4 wives with me, but when I die, I'll be alone. How lonely I'll be!"
Thus, he asked the 4th wife, "I loved you most, endowed you with the finest clothes & showered great care over you. Now that I'm dying, will you follow me & keep me company?" "No way!" replied the 4th wife & she walked away without another word. The answer cut like a sharp knife into the merchants heart.
The sad merchant then asked the 3rd wife, "I have loved you so much for all my life. Now that I'm dying, will you follow me & keep me company?" "No." replied the 3rd wife. "Life is so good over here! I'm going to remarry when you die!" The merchants heart sank & turned cold.
He then asked the 2nd wife, " I always turned to you for help & you've always helped me out. Now I need your help again. When I die, will you follow me & keep me company?" "I'm sorry, I can't help you out this time." repled the 2nd wife. "At the very most, I can only send you to your grave." The answer came like a bolt of thunder & the merchant was devastated.
The a voice called out: "I'll leave with you. I'll follow you no matter where you go!" The merchant looked up & there was his 1st wife. She was so skinny, almost like she suffered from malnutrition. Greatly grieved, the merchant said "I should have taken much better care of you while I could have!"
Actually we all have 4 wives in our lives...............
The 4th wife is our body. No matter how much time & effort we lavish in making it look good, it'll leave us when we die.
The 3rd wife is our possession, status & wealth. Whe we die they all go to others.
The 2nd wife is our family & friends. No matter how close they had been when we were alive, the furthest they can stay by us is up to the grave.
The 1st wife.
Something you can't see is in fact our soul. Often neglected in persuit of material wealth & pleasure. It is actually the only thing that followa us wherever we go. Perhaps it's a good idea to cultivate & strengthen it noe rather than to wait until we are on our death bed to lament.
What will you do about it?

Don't despair. Polyandry exists as well. There have been lots of cases, especially among Mormons.

Does anyone have any experience from four men? Certainly they have different qualities, too.

I think this question is directed to the wrong crowd (Muslims) because this can only is answered by a Western woman. By the way Islam allow conditional "Polygyny (http://www.islam-is-the-only-solution.com/polygyny.htm)" and the not the polygamy.

Last night I saw something quite interesting on television (Michael Palin's series on Tibet). There's a tribe in Western China, where a child never knows his father. Women look after children together and the uncle of the child has some sort of a father's role.

Hi PiElle
Islam permits divorce unlike Christianity, where a woman beomes a whore and not permitted to remarry. A Muslim woman can remarry after her divorce or after becoming a widow.
But how I am biased is beyond me? Where you got this idea from? Care to point out the flaw in my post?
In fact, you should be thankful that I educated the people and corrected the misinformation or disinformation.
Nevertheless, I am curious to know how I am biased? My post was a direct response to an open and absurd question (http://www.ummah.com/forum/showpost.php?p=562182&postcount=11), not mention derogatory.
By the way, I don't post anything without personally verifying the authenticity and accuracy of sources and information.

i just feel that you are not considering the feelings and interests of your muslim sisters by saying that! and name calling? correct me if i'm wrong but i seemed to recall a story about a prostitute quenching a dog's thirst and went to heaven.
btw, i try to speak from my heart. forgive me for i have limited knowledge of islam.
so, yes, i thank you for sharing your intellectual knowledge on islam, and that's about it!!!!
if you really want to know your flaws? well... i can point out 2 here... please do not jump the gun and please have more respect for women. (ie. please dun use ugly words when you are replying/speaking to a lady, mr scholar(?))
hope you learn something from my reply.
Peace. :-)

Rubbish! Catholicism is only a small part of Christianity. I'd be pleased if you could explain how a Muslim woman can divorce a man?

Catholicism is the larger and major cult of Chiristianity with a billion followers and they existed since 325 AD.
COntrary to that your cult of protestant did not existed until 15th century, neither your Bible ever existed. So stop playing holier than thou!
Yes, Christianity at large make a woman a whore, to learn please read your Bible.
<O:p</O:p
It is forbidden men to marry a non-virgin, or for those widowed or divorced to remarry, Bible considers a widow and (especially) divorced woman a WHORE. <O:p</O:p
Example: Leviticus!<O:p</O:p
<TABLE style="mso-padding-alt: 0in 0in 0in 0in; mso-cellspacing: 1.5pt" cellPadding=0 border=0><TBODY><TR><TD style="PADDING-RIGHT: 0.75pt; PADDING-LEFT: 0.75pt; PADDING-BOTTOM: 0.75pt; PADDING-TOP: 0.75pt" vAlign=top>021:007
</TD><TD style="PADDING-RIGHT: 0.75pt; PADDING-LEFT: 0.75pt; PADDING-BOTTOM: 0.75pt; PADDING-TOP: 0.75pt">They shall not take a wife that is a whore, or profane; neither shall they take a woman put away from her husband: for he is holy unto his God. <O:p</O:p
</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>FYI, Islam is not based on BBC or any news or any newspaper article. Therefore, I have to reject your source as absurd and unqualified to draw logical conclusions.
Islam is based on Qur'an and Sunnah, therefore, if you want to make a point that Islam does not allow a woman to divorce her husband; than you must present the evidence from Qur'an and Sunah= Islamic Shariah.
You think you can do that?
I don't think so!
