Sister Ginny
Wal-Mart - Gifts & Flowers - Online Gift Card

Sister Ginny is a blind Muslim convert who lives in the U.S. Over the weekend her house was burnt down and she lost all her possessions. You can read about it here. Al-hamdullillah, she got out alive and so did her guide dog, but she has to rebuild her live. Umm Zaid is co-ordinating the effort. You can read about this here. They have requested Wal-Mart vouchers because you can buy almost anything from Wal-Mart, it's convenient, and prices are low.

From the UK, or anywhere in the world, we can buy Wal-Mart vouchers online [see title link] and have them e-mailed to sister Ginny. You can get sister Ginny's e-mail address from Umm Zaid. At current exchange rates a $10 gift card is only about £5. This is peanuts. Four hundred people check into this site everyday, if half bought a $10 gift card this would give $2000 to Ginny which would go a long way. If you would prefer to give hard cash so that sister Ginny can get any special things she needs for her condition you can read how here

http://www.blogistan.co.uk/blog/?p=392#more-392

When we give sadaqa to Islamic charities a sizable proportion of the money goes in admininstration [this is not a criticism and I value the work of Islamic charities] and the people we give to are anonymous to us. If we give to sister Ginny we will be helping somebody directly. We can all afford £5. I know a lot of you read this at work and you probably have your wallet or purse on your person right now, take out one of your cards and go onto Wal-Mart online, it'll take less than five minutes.

Please give.

Ginny Update: What You Can Do

Salaam 'Alaikum

I just got off the phone w/ Ginny. Here's what you can do:

1. Send a gift card for Wal-Mart, K-Mart, or Target (W-M being the easiest for them b/c of it's location). Remember, Ginny, her brother, and his wife lost everything (even toothbrushes), so they'll need to replace a lot of stuff.

2. If you wanted to donate cash, you can send it to her brother's Pay Pal acc't.

3. Islamic goods (esp. hijab & clothing) for Ginny.

4. She's going to need a new supply of Braille paper. That can be ordered by you directly online and shipped to her. I'll let you know the paper specifications when she gets them to me.

The landlord has pictures which should be available within the next few days. Abby (her Leader dog) is having a new harness sent to her. Alhamdulillah, her Braille Qur'an was at her parent's house.

If you want to help Ginny and her family, please e-mail me and I will let you know the specifics. Let me know what you want to do. My e-mail addy is

If you're not on Sunni Sisters or Bloggerific, use the subject header: Helping Ginny so I don't think it's spam. And don't forget, everyone who helps out gets a goodie from Leilaji at Sister Scorpion (art or poetry, you decide).

Our prayers are with Sister Ginny. We will pray that Allah (swt) makes her condition better and provides her with patience at this most difficult time.

In times of calamity it is reassuring to know that the ummah gets together to relieve the pains of its members.

A hadith of the prophet Muhammed (PBUH) states that the ummah is like a body, if one part of the body is in pain, all of the body is affected.

If you could extend these words to Sister Ginny, I would be v grateful. She can always count on our support in times of crises and in times of peace.
