the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah [Salla Allahu Aleihi Wassalam]
Similar to the obedience of the commands of Allah (swt), obedience of the commands of the Messenger of Allah [Salla Allahu Aleihi Wassalam] should be followed.
Abu Huraira told that the Messenger of Allah [Salla Allahu Aleihi Wassalam] addressed them saying: O People! Haj (pilgrimage) has been ordained for you, so perform it. A man asked whether it should be performed annually, but the Messenger of Allah [Salla Allahu Aleihi Wassalam] gave no reply till he had asked the question three times. Then he [Salla Allahu Aleihi Wassalam] said: If I were to say that it should, it would be obligatory and you would not be able to perform it, after which he [Salla Allahu Aleihi Wassalam] said: Leave me alone as long as I have said nothing to you, for your predecessors perished simply on account of their much questioning and their disagreement with their prophets. But when I command you to do anything, obey it as much as you can; and when I forbid you to do anything, leave it alone.

Abu Sa'eed bin Al Mu'alla relates: I was performing my prayer in the Mosque. The Messenger of Allah [Salla Allahu Aleihi Wassalam] called me. I did not answer his call, then (after finishing the prayer) when I appraoched him I said, Oh Messenger of Allah [Salla Allahu Aleihi Wassalam] I was performing my prayer, (hence, I could not come to you when you called me) He stated: Did not Allah command (in the Holy Quran): People, when Allah and His Messenger call you obey their command.

Abdullah (bin Mas'ood) stated that Allah has cursed the women who tatoo their bodies, pullout the hairs from their faces and for looking pretty have their teeth straightened and further for changing what Allah (swt) has made for them. When a woman of Bani Asad named Umme Yakoob, who used to read the Quran heard this, came to Abdullah (bin Mas'ood) and said: I heard that you have cursed the woman who tatoo their bodies, who remove their hairs from their faces, and those who widen their teeth and those who change what Allah (swt) has made for them. Abdullah (bin Mas'ood) said why should I not curse such a woman for whom the Messenger of Allah [Salla Allahu Aleihi Wassalam] had cursed and this matter is also mentioned in the Quran. The woman said, I have read the whole Quran which is preserved in two tablets, but I did not find anything about this matter. Abdullah (bin Mas'ood) said if you had studied the Quran carefully (the way in which it should be read) you would definately find this matter in it. Allah (swt) declares: "Whatever the Messenger commands act upon it and whatever he forbids forego them." Then the woman said; some of the above signs are to be found in your wife. Abdullah said: Go and see for yourself. The woman went and saw her but could not find any of the above signs in her. She returned and said I have not seen any of the above signs in your wife. Abdullah stated: If she had done it, I would not have had any connection with her.

Some angels came to the Prophet [Salla Allahu Aleihi Wassalam] while he was sleeping. Some of them said, "He is sleeping." Others said, "His eyes are sleeping but his heart is awake." Then they said, "There is an example for this companion of yours." One of them said, "Then set forth an example for him." Some of them said, "He is sleeping." The others said, "His eyes are sleeping but his heart is awake." Then they said, "His example is that of a man who has built a house and then offered therein a banquet and sent an inviter (messenger) to invite the people. So whoever accepted the invitation of the inviter, entered the house and ate of the banquet, and whoever did not accept the invitation of the inviter, did not enter the house, nor did he eat of the banquet." Then the angels said, "Interpret this example to him so that he may understand it." Some of them said, "He is sleeping.) The others said, "His eyes are sleeping but his heart is awake." And then they said, "The houses stands for Paradise and the call maker is Muhammad [Salla Allahu Aleihi Wassalam]; and whoever obeys Muhammad [Salla Allahu Aleihi Wassalam], obeys Allah; and whoever disobeys Muhammad [Salla Allahu Aleihi Wassalam], disobeys Allah. Muhammad [Salla Allahu Aleihi Wassalam] separated the people (i.e., through his message, the good is distinguished from the bad, and the believers from the disbelievers)."
