AA,

Did Sa'ad Ibn Ibadah (r) offer Bayy'at to Abu-Bakr (r) after the passing of Muhammad (Peace and Blessing Be Upon Him)? I do recall a story where Sa'ad (r) insisted someone from the Ansar should be given the position of Caliph but the rest is vague to me. Can anyone dwelve on this a little further?

Majority of Companions chose Abu Bakr radhiyAllahu 'anhu Khaleefatur Rasool, so I don't think this is of any importance to find out that one Companion or more didn't give him bai'ah (pledge of allegiance) though I haven't come across any evidence which can claim that Hadhrat Sa'd didn't didn't give his pledge of allegiance to the First Caliph after he was chosen by all Momineen.
Even Hadhrat Ali who was a party for Hadhrat Abu Bakr, gave his bai'at to him six months later.

It was only Hadhrat Ali radhiyAllahu 'anhu out of our first 5 Caliphs whom MOST of the Companions didn't give their pledge of allegiance.

AA,

Jazakumullah Khayr for your candid response, Debater. But here's where I'm getting at (and where you were probably hinting towards). If a group (let's call it a "sect") believes someone besides Abu-Bakr Siddique (r) should have been annointed the position of Caliph, then it wouldn't be a big deal as we make of it today. Right? But that is exactly what is happening in the current climate in our Ummah.
