This should be quiet period, all the kuffs had thier holidays and dont have much money left. Which means it should be ok to get holidays. I got loads left from annual leave, gotta take em before april.

That may be true, but when u have a number of muslims working with you who booked holidays then it become a prob.

I initially put in a request for holidays in anticipation that Eid would fall on Friday 21st at the beginnin' of November...

Its really competitive. But a brother got sacked, so his dates have become available.

But in the worst case scenario, I have a backup plan. That is to pray Eid prayer and turn up to work in my salwar kameez !

(Its dress down day on Fridays)

Asalaamwa'laikum,

I'd initially thought Eid was to be Friday 21st January in the UK. Apparently the Saudi Hajj Committee even faxed mosques in the Uk to confirm that the Hajj would fall on Thursday 20th (hence Eid on Friday 21st).

However, I now hear that they have changed the date and Eid will now be on Thursday 20th!

Can anyone please confirm this as I need to re-arrange my day off from work tomorrow if this is the case.

Jazakallahkhair.

Assalam alaikum,

ISNA's Announcement: ISNA is pleased to announce that Eid ul Adha will be on Friday, January 21, 2005. The Hajj Authority in Mecca as well as the Moon Sighting Committee in North America have both announced that Wednesday 12 January 2005 is the beginning of Zul Hijjah, and Friday 21 January 2005 will be Eid ul Adha (Eid of Sacrifice) with Muslims around the world celebrating the day of Eid in solidarity.

On January 14, the Supreme Judiciary Council of Saudi Arabia announced a change in its earlier statement, that the standing at Arafat will be on January 19 and Eid ul Adha on January 20.

Moon sighting on January 10 was astronomically ruled out in Saudi Arabia. The new moon was born at 12:03 Universal Time on January 10 and was only 3 hours old in Saudi Arabia. It set 3 minutes before the sunset. Therefore, sightability on January 10 was totally incredible. ISNA stands by its earlier decision that Eid ul Adha in North America will, insha'Allah, be on Friday, January 21, as announced earlier.

It's been decided by the islamic judiciary council

Jazakiallahkhair Ozzy,

I've also found 2 other links now...

http://www.islamonline.net/English/News/2005-01/15/article01.shtml

http://www.fatwa-online.com/news/0050111.htm

Both seem to say that the Saudi judiciary committee have changed the date of the sighting of the moon, from Weds 12th to Tues 11th.

...as such, Eid ul-Adha will insh'allah be Thursday 20th January 2005.

That must be annoying for you two. It's just so silly. The judiciary commitee should be more organised and sure of themselves before they go announcing the wrong thing and then correcting it after it's too late for everyone.

Yes, but if Arafah is on Wednesday then Eid is Thursday... theres no question 'bout it.

Can't change the day for convenience, just cos u booked hols on friday. You have to be true to urself and acknowledge the fact.

I'll pray Eid on Thursday morn' and go to work straight after, n spend Eid over the weekend.

Ppl have a few days to re-plan... unlike last ramadhan, when Eid suddenly came upon us n tarweeh was cancelled, n I never managed to complete the qur'an recitiation on time, cos i anticipated the extra day fast :(... but alhumdulillah...
