Russia expects 10,000 pilgrims to join hajj
MOSCOW. Jan 10 (Interfax) - Over 10,000 pilgrims from Russia will make the hajj to Muslim holy places in Saudi Arabia, Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Yakovenko told the Russian press.
"The headquarters of the Russian mission has launched operations in Mecca," the Foreign Ministry website said on Monday, quoting Yakovenko.
The Russian consulate in Jeddah reports that the first group of 328 people arrived on two charter flights to Medina on January 8-9. Twelve more flights are expected in the next few days, carrying 1,968 pilgrims.
"In addition, about 1,000 pilgrims will fly to Saudi Arabia on regular flights.
Also, 7,000 will be traveling by bus via Iran, Turkey, Syria and Jordan," Yakovenko
