Wa alaikum assalam sis,
It totally sucks having to ditch Eid festivities for studying. I remember that in Ramadhan, I ditched mostly all of my schoolwork and studies in order to enjoy the benefits and blessings of Ramadhan and Eid ul Fitr. I paid dearly for it later as I had to seriously abandon everything but my books for the next two months, but I think it was worth it.
As for this Eid, my Spring semester doesn't start until the 24th, so alhamdulillah I'll be able to enjoy it thoroughly. For Eid I always go to the masjid to pray, then go around visiting friends and family. It's such a wonderful time, alhamdulillah. :inlove:
And since you're in Egypt (right?) I can't imagine how beautiful it is there for Eid. I say sacrifice at least the first day for fun, then cram afterwards. ;)
Eid with me and my beautiful son ,mashallah!
we always have so much fun, gonna get all the family round,it is so much fun when all the kids are together, and checking who's clothes are better!!

I cant stand people who go to uni or work on Eid day.
Subhanalah, like sis Hasah said we only get two celeberations in the year, make the most of them.
Eids are getting boring, we have to do things to make them exciting at leasdt for the young ones.
Bit of confusion as to when Eid gonaa be :(
Inshalah we have booked our sacrifice animals will be slaughered on friday morning, so if Eid is on thursday we can spend the eid with Arthur and edward (the lambs for slaughering). We have had arthur since Ramadhan, and edward arrived yesterday. I havent really spent anytime with edward but arthur is such a sweety and mashalah has good adhab too. He always stares at my dad, but when or my sisters look he lowers his gaze and doesnt look up..awww...thats so sweet.
If Eid is on thursday it wont be much, I will have to go work after Eid lunch, since i booked off friday :(
But inshalkh friday will be good, will spend the day cutting up the meat and cooking it in different ways liek we always do, grilll, barbq, roast, fry and distribute amongst friends and the kuffar in the village. I am telling you, this Kuffar have been looking forward to Eid more than we have. :)
We also gonna deocrate the house, we always get the kuffar to help us decorate the outside, so we can also explain them about our celeberation so they are not upset that we dont part take in their celeberations.
On the third day of eid we invite our non-musilm relatives, we dont invite my mom's hindu relatives since this celeberation would be totally offending them..lol, we do invite them on Eid al fitr.
I cant stand people who go to uni or work on Eid day.

Here is pic of Edward, arthur is on a walk. he is the smelly one...eats all the plants.
Aww, don't be so hard on those who go to uni/work. Sometimes it's difficult to get out of it. Plus, Eid prayer is Sunnah anyhow. Also, Eid lasts 3 days. So, if you can't have fun on the 1st day, try to spend some quality time w/family and friends the day after.
Insha Allah, I'm going to the prayer in the mrng, and after that, Allahu a3lam what's in the schedule for the rest of the day.
Yallah, "kul sanah wa antum tayyibeen" or "Eid Mubarak" or "Happyyyyyy Eid." :)

Sis, there are Muslims who have jobs that do not give days off at the whim of the employee.
And for some college students it is not feasible to miss a class, or a test, although some professors might understand.
Count your blessings rather than condemn others.
Eids are getting boring, we have to do things to make them exciting at leasdt for the young ones.
Inshallah these craft ideas from Ramadhan can be adapted:

Inshalah we have booked our sacrifice animals will be slaughered on friday morning, so if Eid is on thursday we can spend the eid with Arthur and edward (the lambs for slaughering). We have had arthur since Ramadhan, and edward arrived yesterday.
Spending quality time with the sacrificial lambs...a little ghoulish for my tastes. I prefer my meat precut and tenderly wrapped in white butcher paper.
I havent really spent anytime with edward but arthur is such a sweety and mashalah has good adhab too. He always stares at my dad, but when or my sisters look he lowers his gaze and doesnt look up..awww...thats so sweet.
I had a similar experience with a dog we had as children. He reacted with fear and submission to anyone wearing a hat or uniform. I've even heard of some animals reacting violently when in such a situation.
We also gonna deocrate the house, we always get the kuffar to help us decorate the outside, so we can also explain them about our celeberation so they are not upset that we dont part take in their celeberations.
I love my fairy lights so much, they've been up since before Ramadhan! :)
On the third day of eid we invite our non-musilm relatives, we dont invite my mom's hindu relatives since this celeberation would be totally offending them..lol, we do invite them on Eid al fitr.
We offer the vegetarians we know a delicious vegetarian main dish when meat is our main course at our dinner parties.
Try this recipe:
ROASTED EGGPLANT CURRY
Serves: 4 to 6
This is a simplified adaptation of a vegetable dish appears that frequently on Indian restaurant menus as Baingan Bharata. It features roasted eggplant, which is so easy to prepare, and so versatile. Once the eggplant has been roasted and is cool enough to handle, this dish is made quickly and easily. I’ve added a can of chickpeas to make it a main dish. Serve over hot cooked grains.
2 medium eggplants (about 1 1/2 pounds total)
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 medium onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 small fresh hot chili, seeded and minced
14 to 16-ounce can diced tomatoes, with liquid
16-ounce can chickpeas, drained and rinsed
2 teaspoons good-quality curry powder or garam masala, or to taste
Salt to taste
Chopped fresh cilantro to taste
Hot cooked brown rice or other grain of your choice
Preheat the oven to 450 degrees.
Prick the skin of the eggplants in several places. Place on a foil-lined baking sheet and place in the oven. Bake for 35 to 45 minutes, of until the eggplants have collapsed. Remove and let them cool. when ready to handle, scoop the flesh away from the skin. discard the skin and stems; chop the eggplant flesh coarsely.
Heat the oil in a large skillet. Add the onion and sauté over medium heat until golden, then add the minced chili and sauté for another minute or two.
Add the chopped eggplant, diced tomatoes, and spices. Stir well and cook over medium-low heat, covered, for 10 minutes. Season to taste with salt and remove from heat. Stir in the chopped cilantro and serve over hot cooked grains.
Note: This is a good make-ahead dish. Keep covered or refrigerate until needed, then heat through. Save the cilantro to stir in just before serving.

Umm Layth, it must be really nice to experience the sense of sacrifice, when you see the very animal beign slaughtered and eaten which you had raised up and looked after. Subhanallah :)
I remember watching a bull or cow being slaughtered back home when i was 10, i wasnt disturbed or didnt think it was gruisome.
So how do you feel when the animal is slaugtered? Do u actually see it being slaughtered?
awwwwwwwww...edward is such a cutey!!! mashaAllaah....can't believe on friday he's gonna be lamp chops!!!
well if it were any other thursday, i would have easily gotten out of this class, unfortunately, when ure working on a international project, u have to see when u can have meetings with your international couterparts.
well going to uni for an hour is no biggie, i guess.

He is really cutey, but he smells really bad and he is uncivilised...lol..eats plants and basically anything infront of him, so will be glad to see him lamb chops. Arthur, its different, we had him for 2 months, he is more grown than edward and he well mannered... will have to shed a few tears for him thou
But it makes you ponder on the conviction of Ibrahim As who was prepared to slaughter his son for the sake of his creator Allah tala, just because He ordered him to. SubhanAllah, may Allah tala make us strong in following the commands of Allah tala. :)

It sure is, actually its a very important event, its very emotional becuase its recommended that you spend time with the animal and develop attachment with it, so as you said, we experience the sense of sacrifice.
My father would wish for us to watch it, but this time around I might ask to be excused from watching the slaughter, my sister will video it so will watch that later inshalah. :)

I shall visit my elder parents inshaALlah. But people thinks eids r just holiday. Some people go to holiday resorts. They waste their time. Allah (s.w.t) has given us eids to meet our friends and visit our elder parents, make stronger our ties with our friends, family. There are many reason for that. now we should ask ourselves. What should I do in this eid? I may not alive tomorrow..
These are all my opinions inshaALlah we can make our eids meaningful. We shouldnt see them as a holiday.

I just did :|
In fact, I prayed Eid Jamaat at the Islamic Centre before I went work on the Thursday. My sis sent some roast chicken tandoori wings and chicken nuggets / pakora around mid-day. It was nice.
The kufs enjoyed themselves. One cuban asked who made it. I said I did (I lied jopkin'ly). He asked how i made the chutney. I explained to him the ingredients, but i'll get him a list of quantities from off my sis.
On Friday I was tired. The day at work dragged. When I got home in the eve... it wasn't much more excitin'... had the nieces round, visited another of my sis... thinkin' back, it wasn't a bad idea to go work to stave off Eid boredom... but I'd rather still take day off work.
Today was much better... visited yet another sister... was invited 'round friends house and hooked up with friends...
Man too much desi food is a killer... had rice pilau rice 3 times today alhumdulillah. :) :vomit:
Tomorrow, have more missions to accomplish.... includin' sortin' the car out.
Is that perverted gandhu still pi$$in' u off at work?
:buttkick:
ewwww, freak.
:vomit: again :(
aaawwww!! eid aint eid widout the pilau, dont worry ,if it makes u feel anybetter, i eat it 4x in one da (+ samosas, kebabs, tandoori chicken!!), i gotta join the gym......
gandhu is still in shock me thinks cos of the hijab, besides that remark he made (whats that thing on your head) he has not said anything to me (dont know if he has behind my back!)
but he came back from hols and bought me a bracelet *raises her eyebrow*, he said its to keep the bad eye of me, i said i dont want it and he jus left it on my desk and walked of.!!!
ever since then he been checking if i wear it but its still sitting there everytime he looks BUT on friday i think someone stole it of me desk and now he thinks me chucked it in the bin, (promise me didnt) dont think im in his good books at the mo!!

Since the war ended yes muslims have become more religious. In bosnia they just make a big meal and invite neighbours, friends and family over and just talk and just have a good time. Though in Bosnia we call it Bajram, we adopted that from the Turkish occupation.
