THE REAL MEANING OF CHRISTMAS

Hajj Ahmad Thomson [Author of Jesus: Prophet of Islam]*
Versus
Canon Christopher Lamb [Coventry Cathedral ] *

Date: Saturday 18th December 2004
Time: 4.30pm - 6pm (after Maghrib which is at 4pm)
Venue: Community Hall, St Paul’s Church, 346 Foleshill Road, Foleshill , Coventry, West Midlands CV6 5AJ

The majority of Muslims know that Jesus (as) was a prophet of Islam
or had something to do with Islam, but very few know about the 'Real
Story of Jesus' and anything they do know tends to be derived
from Christian sources.

Christmas holidays come and go each year with a shopping frenzy,
hustle and bustle, Santa Claus, Christmas trees, decorations and
lights. This is the time when Christians apparantly celebrate
the birth of Jesus. In the midst of all of this are Muslims who
neither use this opportunity to pass on the true story of Jesus
because they are either too lazy, ignorant or perhaps caught up
in trying to catch the best bargins in the market places, trying
to keep up to date with the latest film releases or even partying
away in hope of that elusive "Mistletoe kiss"!

* Do you know the true story of Jesus (as) - one of the greatest
prophets sent down by Allah ?
* What are the origins of Christianity and Christmas ?
* What is the basis of 'Santa Claus' and Boxing day ?
* Do you think it's just harmless fun to get involved in
Christmas celebrations ?
* Do you honestly give a damn or are you more concerned about
what films you will see on TV ?

If you have said 'No' to any of the above and sincerely do care then:

1. Turn up with the intention of learning about Jesus (as).
2. If you think you know this already and find it boring, then
don't bother attending, unless you bring a non-Muslim - may
be then you could some da'wah, brother.
3. Stop watching the endless 'Jesus of Nazareth' films and attend
this event and other Christmas alternative events.
4. Nowadays bargains take place throughout the year, so give them a
miss this Christmas and turn up for the event - it's FREE!
5. Finally, if you can't be bothered to attend at least tell others
especially Non-muslims.

*Ahmad Thomson was educated both in Zimbabwe and England, and
having travelled widely, he was fortunate enough to escape having
too rigid a cultural moulding or social conditioning and accordingly,
although brought up as a Christian, recognised and embraced Islam
for what it was. He is a currently practicing as a barrister and is
deputy chairman of the Association of Muslim Lawyers (AML). He has
written widely on a number of Islamic issues, particularly the
history of Muslim Spain. His contributions have included, "Jesus,
Prophet of Islam", "Islam in Andalus", "For Christ's Sake", "Dajjal
the Antichrist", "Blood on the Cross", and many more.

*Canon Christopher Lamb was ordained as a priest for 40 years, serving in London, Lahore, Birmingham,
Coventry and now South Warwickshire, where he is in charge of four village churches.
His last job was as the Interfaith officer for the Church of England and the national council of churches,
now called Churches Together in Britain and Ireland. He a member of the Anglican Communion Dialogue
team meeting annually with the Permanent Committee for Dialogue with the Monotheistic Faiths of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif.

We look forward to your participation in what should be a highly
interesting and thought provoking event. It will be an excellent
opportunity for da'wah.
