I'm a right-handed creature.
It is believed that each part of the brain (right/left hemisphere) controls the opposite side of the body. Meaning, the left part of the brain controls the right side of the body and vice versa. Thus, for right-handed people (as in my case), the left side of the brain is more important than the right side.
People who use their right hands excel in the following feilds; Language. mathematics and logical thinking.
On the other hand, people who are left-handed (using the right side of their brains) do extremely well in recognizing shapes and people, enjoying music and in making guesses...
Left-handed people do well in matters concerning science and technology while right-handed in religion and art...
And Allah knows best!
does anyone know weva its true or not that there are more right handed people than south paws?

ya know what? I don't even know! You should have "ambidextrous" as an option.... though recently I've been thinking I might be right handed, cause when I drive I steer more with my right hand, but that could be cause I use my left hand to change gears so not actually because I'm right handed.
When I was a little kid I was made to write with my right hand rather than my left. before that I don't know if I was left handed or ambidextrous. I write with my right hand but do a lot of other things left handed. I don't have a dominant eye, and I'm incapable of doing the test for dominant eye, because I just see two of everything. I'm also dyslexic, which is linked to the lack of a dominant eye and ambidextrousness.

Ambidextrous is only applied when you can use both hands equally as one another.

says who? It's about how your brain is wired up. How can I not be ambidextrous if I don't know what handed I am?
Can you write with your left hand just as well as your right hand sister?

my right hand writing is neater, because I've practiced more with my right hand. Just like in ice hockey I play left handed and I'm better playing left handed because that's how I've trained. I can do both those things with the other hand when necessary, but not as accurately (and I'm pretty sure I can't do a wrist shot right handed!) Basically any new skill I have to decide whether to learn it left or right handed (or in some cases both, for example when I did Judo I could fight left or right handed equally as well with no preference for either - in fact I would simply take the opposite grip to my opponent (thus putting them at a disadvantage)) and in some cases like when I attempted to learn fencing, I was rubbish at it because if I was fencing left handed I wanted to use my right hand, and when fencing right handed I wanted to use my left hand. (i would have been fine if I could have two swords, one in each hand!)
Your preferred hand is innate, how strongly one handed you are is also innate. For example I know someone who was born without a left hand, however, specialists have found that he is naturally left handed. Obviously he writes with his right hand, but his brain is wired up to be left handed.
All the tests I've done for handedness/ dominant eye have shown no preference.

I love lefties, especially my sons, but this doesn't look too encouraging:
Around ten percent of Americans are left-handed, and of those, there are twice as many lefty males as females. Cats and parrots have general tendencies toward their left paws and claw; rats and monkeys tend to be right-pawed. A study of ultrasound pictures of 270 fetuses (from 1 month to 9 months) revealed that 92% sucked their right thumb while in the womb.
What does left-handedness mean, practically speaking? Medical literature reports that lefties more accident prone, are more likely to have their fingers amputated by power-tools, suffer more wrist fractures. Lefties are more susceptible to allergies, auto-immune diseases, bed-wetting, depression, drug abuse, epilepsy, hypnotism, low birth weight, schizophrenia, sleeping disorders, suicide attempts, and certain learning disabilities. Lefties are six times likelier to die in an accident, and four times to likelier to die while driving.

Lets see: dont ever have any accidents, never had any fractures, dont have any allergies, none of the next things either, depression-got enough and even more of it for spare too, drug abuse- dont know about that never done any drugs, if you dont count the one time I smoked sheesha, epilepsy- none that I know of, hypnotism- dont know about that, my weights fine, schizophrenia- still in one mind, sleeping disorders- thats big one allright, suicide attempts- none to my knowladge, still alive and not driving either.

In Britain people drive on the left side of the road due to the fact that, in the olden days horsemen tended to occupy the left of the road when riding so they could draw their sword with their right hand and fend off highwaymen. A little known fact courtesy of national geographic.

are more likely to have their fingers amputated by power-tools, [/i]
because power tools are made for right handed people. So are many other things, but other things just make life a little bit more awkward, powertools chop your fingers off. (there is probably somthing like this going on to make lefties have more wrist fractures)
There is also a cause/effect issue with a number of other things on the list. Dyslexic people are significantly more likely to be left handed, ambidextrious and weakly one handed (right or left) - which is not surprising as one of the key factors in dyslexia is a confusion between both sides of the brain whilst processing linear information. It's been described as like both eyes reading the word simeltaneously from opposite ends of the word. This would not happen in someone who has one side of their brain clearly dominant over the other. (Having one side strongly dominant would mean that you would have the corresponding side of your body strongly dominant (left brain = right handed cause the nerves cross over from some reason))
Because of the literacy problems with dyslexia, people with it are more likely to under achieve at school and suffer a great deal of stress from this. Stress is a significant trigger factor for schyzophrenia and depression. Kids who are stressed are more likely to wet the bed and have other sleeping disorders. Stressed teenagers are more likely to take drugs or try to kill themselves. Many schyzophrenics try to kill themselves at some point or other.
The only learning disability associated with left handedness that I am aware of is dyselxia, which should be referred to as a "specific learning disability" as it only affects learning specific skills, and does not affect learning in general.
There is a link between dyslexia and allergies and auto immune disease, but I'm not sure if scientists have got to the bottom of it. (a link does not demonstrate cause or effect) Both allergies and auto immune disease comes from having an immune system which is too aggressive.
Dyspraxia is linked with dyslexia and causes clumsyness. In my case I'm not dispraxic but I'm likely to bump into stuff as my brain sees two of things (e.g. two doorframes when I walk through the door) and picking the wrong doorframe results in me bashing into the door frame. please note: when I'm driving I'm fully aware of this and I'm very careful when trying to get throuhg narrow gaps, but someone who is not aware of having this problem might be more likely to have a minor car accident because of this. (major car accidents are less likely as motorways have decent sized lanes etc)

oh yeah, that just reminded me...... when I used to hang out at a particular ice rink, I used to play full contact british bulldog with blokes quite a lot bigger than me, (during the "speed session" part of the public session) with no equipment besides my skates, and also we played football on ice, again with no equipment, and the only thing keeping me alive (so to speak) was the fact I have good balance and good skating technique (and I took a lot of them boys down too :p) and also that I used to do judo and know how to fall properly. And one time playing football this lad did a sliding tackle on me and got his skate in my shin. Luckily I was wearing jeans it didn't cut that badly....
That was a mad season that was........... most of my injuries that season I got off the ice, my coach would have decided I was a nutter but for another team mate that did even more stupid things and got much worse injuries (he threatened to confiscate her rollerblades *lol*) - the funniest one was on the bus on the way back from a game in cardiff....... we were daring each other to do silly stuff, and one of them was to do a summersault on the ceiling of the bus by grabbing the luggage rail and walking on the ceiling and spinning round and landing on your feet (okay, that was not a good description but I can't think of a better way of putting it) and daft old me let go at the wrong point and fell and whacked my leg on an arm rest of one of the chairs. Which was rather painful and I remember hopping round the next motorway services unable to put any weight on my leg......
........the one I got in the most trouble for though, I was playing for the ladies team and the under 19's boys team, and the night before a u19s match at womens team training, I was messing around in the dressing room before training and a team mate trod on my bare foot with her skates on...... I got stitches in my foot, then had to explain to the manager of the boys team why I couldn't play...... would have been less bad but they only had about nine players for that particular game!!! (less than two complete lines anyway) I was not popular that day :eek2:
