Perhaps my use of the word caliph (http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary?va=caliph) is the wrong word?

On this forum, it has been mentioned many times of the implimentation of an Islamic State,
then the expansion of this state until it engulfs the entire planet.
( at least, that's how I understood the posts )
Certainly, there needs to be a central leader to maintain control over society.
Isn't this persons TITLE, Khallif/caliph (http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary?va=caliph) ?

My question is, who is worthy of this TITLE in the Islamic world?

Mahteer Mohammed
Dr Mahathir Mohamad Shows No Sign Of Stepping Down
Dr Mahathir entered active politics in 1964 as a Member of Parliament for UMNO. He lost his seat in 1969 and was expelled from the party after attacking the Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman, in an open letter, for neglecting the indigenous Malay community.
In the political wilderness, he developed his ideas in a controversial book entitled "The Malay Dilemma". Its thesis was that the Malays have been marginalised during the colonial era; the book castigated them for apathetically accepting their second class lot. It set the tone for future attacks on the West and others who he perceives as bent on subjugating Malaysia and threatening its success.

Only someone fron the Bani Quraish will be Khalifah since it will stop any disagreements between Shiahs and Sunnis.

I thought the numbers are suppose to represent nominees for the post and not a dream cabinet.

4. Ummah
Setelah hijar ke Madinah, membangun masjid dan menghidupkan
persaudaraan diantara kaum muslimin, maka rasulullah pun merumuskan
Kaum muslimin hanya
satu, baik di Indonesia maupun Bosnia. The Unveiled History of 1425 Hijrah

The Lion of Allah and The Martyr of Martyrs

I post these three references for guidance in understanding what your response meant.

Hamzah was fully aware of the greatness of his nephew and of the truth he came with. He used to know him not only as a nephew, but also as a brother and friend because they both belonged to the same generation. They always played together and walked together on the same road of life step by step. But in their youth they departed, each one in his own way: Hamzah preferred the life of leisure, trying to take his place among the prominent leaders of the Quraish and Makkah, while Muhammad chose the life of seclusion away from the crowd, immersed in the deep spiritual meditation that prepared him to receive the truth.

"...the life of leisure, ...among the prominent leaders of the Quraish and Makkah..."

Are you implying that prominent leaders of leisure will be Khalifah ?
Leaving prominent leaders who "chose the life of seclusion away from the crowd, immersed in the deep spiritual meditation that prepared him to receive the truth. " like Muhammad/Osama Bin Laden, never to become, the Khalifah?

I am glad you asked those questions concerning the Bani Qureish(Quraysh) !

Here is the info:

Sunan Abu Dawud:

Book 36, Number 4266:

Narrated Jabir ibn Samurah:

The Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) said: The religion will continue to be established till there are twelve caliphs over you, and the whole community will agree on each of them. I then heard from the Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) some remarks which I could not understand. I asked my father: What is he saying: He said: all of them will belong to Quraysh.

Remember that some of the Quraysh was promised Hell-fire especially concerning Abu Lahab:

In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful.

111.001
YUSUFALI: Perish the hands of the Father of Flame! Perish he!
PICKTHAL: The power of Abu Lahab will perish, and he will perish.
SHAKIR: Perdition overtake both hands of Abu Lahab, and he will perish.

111.002
YUSUFALI: No profit to him from all his wealth, and all his gains!
PICKTHAL: His wealth and gains will not exempt him.
SHAKIR: His wealth and what he earns will not avail him.

111.003
YUSUFALI: Burnt soon will he be in a Fire of Blazing Flame!
PICKTHAL: He will be plunged in flaming Fire,
SHAKIR: He shall soon burn in fire that flames,

111.004
YUSUFALI: His wife shall carry the (crackling) wood - As fuel!-
PICKTHAL: And his wife, the wood-carrier,
SHAKIR: And his wife, the bearer of fuel,

111.005
YUSUFALI: A twisted rope of palm-leaf fibre round her (own) neck!
PICKTHAL: Will have upon her neck a halter of palm-fibre.
SHAKIR: Upon her neck a halter of strongly twisted rope.

Why does the Caliph have to be male?
Women are not meant to be leaders…if a nation is lead by a woman then all shall collapse…it states so in the Qur’an I believe. I agree with Brother Al Nasser’s comment on this topic…

Someone thought it was from GOD and included this conversation, into your Quran ?

I witness NO prophetic decrees or words of warning in the text you provided.
Except maybe for Abu Lahab and his wife.

Tell you what, folks.
I am going to sit down and read your Quran, from cover to cover once again.
Is this a valid translation? http://www.usc.edu/dept/MSA/quran/ (http://www.usc.edu/dept/MSA/quran/)

I think one of the major problems I see, right from the start is this inclusion of extraneous material, second-hand accounts of the life and doings of Muhammad.
While I'm sure they would be useful in understanding the history of Islam,
the actual Quran which was delivered to Muhammad should suffice, right?

I find a similar problem with reading the text of the Bible used by Christians.
How does one determine if the words written were actually voiced by the person
they are attributed to?
Most of what's followed from the Bible, stems from letters which were passed among the early church.
I feel the same toward these sunnah's & etc... that are included alongside the Quran.
Simply a bunch of dead men's voices calling from their own time and place in history.

Well, I'm off to do some reading, I'll be back when I come across an unanswered question.

Gosh Darn ! That didn't take but a minute or two !
Well, this is my first conflict.

The Qur'an is one leg of two which form the basis of Islam.
The second leg is the Sunnah (http://www.usc.edu/dept/MSA/fundamentals/hadithsunnah/) of the Prophet (saas).
What makes the Qur'an different from the Sunnah is primarily its form.
Unlike the Sunnah, the Qur'an is quite literally the Word of Allah,
whereas the Sunnah was inspired by Allah but the wording and actions are the Prophet's. The Chapters of the Qur'an:

YUSUFALI: Verily the tree of Zaqqum
YUSUFALI: Will be the food of the Sinful,-
YUSUFALI: Like molten brass; it will boil in their insides.
YUSUFALI: Like the boiling of scalding water.
YUSUFALI: (A voice will cry: "Seize ye him and drag him into the midst of the Blazing Fire!
YUSUFALI: "Then pour over his head the Penalty of Boiling Water,
PICKTHAL: Lo! the tree of Zaqqum,
PICKTHAL: The food of the sinner!
PICKTHAL: Like molten brass, it seetheth in their bellies
PICKTHAL: As the seething of boiling water.
PICKTHAL: (And it will be said): Take him and drag him to the midst of hell,
PICKTHAL: Then pour upon his head the torment of boiling water.
SHAKIR: Surely the tree of the Zaqqum,
SHAKIR: Is the food of the sinful
SHAKIR: Like dregs of oil; it shall boil in (their) bellies,
SHAKIR: Like the boiling of hot water.
SHAKIR: Seize him, then drag him down into the middle of the hell;
SHAKIR: Then pour above his head of the torment of the boiling water:

People of Hell are going to drink boiling water which makes them feel painful in their stomach and intestines. The pain is very heavy so that their intestines are cut into pieces.

"[Can those in such Bliss] be compared to such as shall dwell forever in the Fire and be given, to drink, boiling water, so that it cuts up their bowels?"

[Qur'an 47:15]

"They will have for drink [only] boiling water, and or punishment, one most grievous: for they persisted in rejecting God

[Qur'an 6:70]

"In front of such one is Hell, and he is given for drink, boiling fetid water"

[Qur'an 14:16]

People of hell eat from fruits of a tree called Zaqqum. This terrible and bitter tree grows at the bottom of Hell. Its fruit-stalks are like the heads of devils instead of being tender. People of Hell are going to eat hungrily;; and every time they are hungry there is nothing for them but this type of food.

"Is that the better entertainment or the Tree of Zaqqum? For We have truly made it a trial for the wrong-doers. For it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-fire: The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of devils: Truly they will eat thereofand fill their bellies therewith. Then on top of that they will be given a mixture made of boiling water..."

[Qur'an 37:62-67]

"Verily, the tree of Zaqqum will be the food of the sinful, -like molten brass; it will boil in their insides, like the boiling of scalding water"

[Qur'an 44: 43-46]

In Surah Al-Muzzamil , the Quran says that the food chokes the throat. Instead of nourishing the person, it causes pain, and instead of satisfying the person, it causes the sensation of hesitant apetite and the desire for more and more food. [73:12-13]

In Surah Al-Haqqah, Allah informs us that the food is that of filth, and from the washing of wounds [69:36]

in Surah Ghashiyah , the Qur'an says that the food of Hell is of bitter thorn-fruit [Dari']. This plant is bitter and thorny, it has a disgusting smell and appearance, and it will not give nourishment to the body nor satisfy the burning spasms of hunger; it is similar to Zaqqum.

Sunnah and Hadith

"And whatever the Messenger gives you, take it, and whatever he forbids you, leave it.
And fear Allah: truly Allah is severe in punishment. " [Qur'an (http://www.usc.edu/dept/MSA/quran/) 59:7]
In Islam, the Arabic word sunnah has come to denote the way Prophet Muhammad (saas), the Messenger of Allah, lived his life. The Sunnah is the second source of Islamic jurisprudence, the first being the Qur'an (http://www.usc.edu/dept/MSA/quran/). Both sources are indispensable (http://www.usc.edu/dept/MSA/fundamentals/hadithsunnah/adheringtosunnah.html); one cannot practice Islam without consulting both of them. The Arabic word hadith (pl. ahadith) is very similar to Sunnah, but not identical. A hadith is a narration about the life of the Prophet (saas) or what he approved - as opposed to his life itself, which is the Sunnah as already mentioned. "Both sources are indispensable (http://www.usc.edu/dept/MSA/fundamentals/hadithsunnah/adheringtosunnah.html); one cannot practice Islam without consulting both of them. "
" ... one cannot practice Islam without consulting both of them. "

" ... one cannot practice Islam..."

The words of God, directly to the people of his creation, simply are not enough that they warrant the depiction of a man's life before your eyes to see the way things should work according to the Qur'an, which is quite literally the Word of Allah, whereas the Sunnah was inspired by Allah but,
the wording and actions are the Prophet's.?

Shouldn't the Quran be made up of one leg, Quran and the other leg, one's own personal diary of how they implement and live according to the lessons given in the Quran?
In this manner, you may teach your son's and daughter's through example.
OK, I can understand that people might regard Muhammad as the father figure of Islam and that
his example is that which one should follow but, his encounters with the local people and authorities
were vastly different than what we experience in today's world.
Perhaps that's what is ongoing yet, I am not availed a clear view of Islamic societies?

I'll keep reading ! :)

Simply sounds like YUSUFALI is angry with Abu Lahab and is casting dispersions upon his name.
Someone thought it was from GOD and included this conversation, into your Quran ?

I witness NO prophetic decrees or words of warning in the text you provided.
Except maybe for Abu Lahab and his wife.
hmm...that was an extract from the Qur'an, if you can not ask a question without mockery don't bother!

Are u still dreaming? Do u have any idea who is our PM now? Good! keep on posting biased info!

hmm...that was an extract from the Qur'an, if you can not ask a question without mockery don't bother!
I realize where it comes from, and that's what troubles me so !
I do not mean to make a mockery out of the Quran but, when items such as what was presented come forth, something needs to be said.

In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful.

111.001
SHAKIR: Perdition overtake both hands of Abu Lahab, and he will perish.

111.002
SHAKIR: His wealth and what he earns will not avail him.

111.003
SHAKIR: He shall soon burn in fire that flames,

111.004
SHAKIR: And his wife, the bearer of fuel,

111.005
SHAKIR: Upon her neck a halter of strongly twisted rope.
The fate of Abu LahabDuring the time of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) the authenticity and credibility of Islam, the Quran and the Prophet himself laid in the hands of one man at a particular point.

Abu Lahab did not believe in Islam.

When Abu Lahab was still well and alive, a short chapter of the Quran was revealed to the Prophet. The chapter said that Abu Lahab will die a non-muslim and will go to hell for not believing in the Oneness of God.

"The power of Abu Lahab will perish, and he will perish. His wealth and gains will not exempt him. He will be plunged in flaming Fire, And his wife, the wood-carrier, Will have upon her neck a halter of palm-fibre." Al Quran Chapter 111. Abu Lahab lived for many years after this prophecy was revealed. He could have destroyed the credibility of Islam and the Prophet simply by pretending to convert. But he didn't....Allah knows all. It is the will of God that is revealed in the chapter above and Abu Lahab, nor anyone in the world can go against the will of God.
