Innal-Hamdalillah was-Salaatu was-Salaamu ‘Ala Rasulillah

I did not believe that I would live to see this day.

A female Muslim lawyer, taking a stance that many men would not dare to assume, namely to defend the rights of the Muslim minority living in the West, and to fight against prejudice and inhuman internment. She is rewarded for her bravery, not by any word of thanks from the community, who should be indebted to her for her heroic services on their behalf, free of charge; rather, she is attacked, prey to the vultures of the gutter tabloid press, The Sun The result? Both the woman in question and her family are harassed, receiving death threats, their privacy publicly invaded, with all the while the Muslim public, both commoners and influential figures amongst them, remain silent onlookers, not raising a finger in defence of this brave woman!

Anyone with some familiarity with Islamic history can discern that anytime the Muslims abandoned, betrayed, or refused to help each other, they were overcome by their enemies, which was followed by a complete collapse of the Muslim society. Isn’t this how the great Islamic civilisation of Spain was destroyed? And have we learnt a lesson from our history, or are we expecting our Islamic Society of Britain to disappear into oblivion one day in the same manner? Or is it not the case that even now, we continue to witness a Muslim dragged through the mud, to the court, tried and jailed, yet we remain silent out of fear, or worse still, out of laziness! Yet, if any amongst us raise our voice, then we only do so when the detainee is someone known to us – it is only then that we realise that we have been over-run by the Crusaders. It is only then that we turn to the Media, plead and beg the world to help – Muslims and Kuffar amongst them – whilst previously, we had been content with our inactivity.

Did not the Prophet -– whom you believe in and hold in such great esteem, SallAllahu Alaihi wa-sallam - say, : “No one abandons a believer, except that Allah abandons him”, and that “Whoever relieves a believer of distress in this world, Allah would relieve him of distress in the next”?

Hence, bursts forth the lava of my criticism, directed to the general masses for their inactivity, which is the result of a number of factors; From them, laziness; and if such people are not energised by a powerful message, or they do not take lessons from their brothers being victimised by the ever-increasing, draconian legislation, at the unblessed hands of David Blunkett, then the only thing that will wake them up is when they themselves come under the spotlight. Therefore, dear reader, if you are of the last category, and some calamity befalls you, prostrate to Allah in thanks, that your conscience has been awoken from its hibernation; and if even that fails to wake you, perhaps you were not hibernating after all – perhaps you were dead.

Fear, for other than Allah, is a factor which keeps us so-called Muslims enslaved by the polytheists. If such a Muslim was a layman, who had never picked up a book on Tawheed, we could perhaps excuse him. However, how humiliating when it comes from one who is well-versed in Tawheed, and claims with his tongue love for Ibn Taymiyyah and Muhammad ibn ‘Abdul-Wahhab, yet his knowledge remains in his head, and cannot go beyond his throat and find its way to his heart! As a poet says:

In Kunta La Tadri, fa Tilka Musibatun
Wa in Kunta Tadri, fal-Musibatu A’dhamu!

If you know not, then such is a calamity
And if you know, then the calamity is greater!

And so such a person is prevented, by his fear, from even lifting one finger to send out an e-mail, dissipating the news of the Muslims in various parts of the globe - even if doing so is perfectly legal in his country! How Cowardice has taken his seat amongst us, that we are too scared to speak about, or to help a Muslim facing injustice, even if this Muslim is innocent of any crime, according to the legal establishments of his own country! Furthermore, in an attempt to conceal his deficiency in Tawheed, he tries to hide behind “Wisdom”. In reality though, his actions are far from wisdom. It is called surrender. The surrender of thought and religion, which is the basis of the other four bare essentials which Islam came to protect; namely, life, lineage, intellect and property. No one is asking you to take up arms! You are only being begged to fight for the rights, provided to you by the very legal system of your country, for the sake of Allah!

From the things that make an ‘inactive Muslim’ are the widespread misconceptions concerning participation in political activities, in all its forms. Some say it is not permissible to take part in such activities, because “taking part in Kuffar politics is Haram”, while they themselves have a history of taking parliamentary seats in certain un-Islamic governments in the Middle East, nor do they fail to run their own political campaigns of writing letters whenever needed! While others from the self-appointed Muftis call it a Bid’ah - and when asked for its definition, they stay silent, not to mention those who prohibit demonstrations - because it is regarded to be rebellion against their leaders from the Labour Party or the Tories!

Others, affected by the deadly, ‘defeatist-mentality syndrome’, believe that such political activities, like voting in polls, demonstrations, writing to MPs etc, fail to achieve anything, hence there is no need to waste our ‘precious time’ (!) by involving ourselves in such activities. Such people obviously do not understand the nature of Western politics and prefer to hide away, tucked under their cosy duvets, waiting to be ambushed and murdered in cold blood in their warm beds. True, such campaigns might not bring about immediate change. But they undoubtably have an impact on the public opinion that may effect the government policies, or the fodder prepared by the media factory for the consumption of the masses. Moreover, whenever these ‘defeatists’ find themselves led to the slaughter, they are suddenly and rudely awoken from their coma, and rush to organise campaigns and petitions for their own expediency, only to find that their friends find no benefit in silly campaigns, petitions or letters to MPs!

But the sad part is that our manpower is being wasted by our community leaders in mosques and university campuses who neither inform their followers of the immediate crisis we are facing in the UK, nor do they encourage them to ward off any threats or attacks on our religious and cultural values. Hence, we witness a weekly gathering of thousands of Muslims, converging to a unique media, given to us from above the seven Heavens- the Jumu’ah Khutbah - but, week in, week out, the attendees leave with zero-motivation to do anything to rectify their own problems in the West.

These leaders of our community, or any Muslim with any kind of media at their disposal, are more guilty, in their silence and inactivity, than the masses, for they bear the guilt of their own inactivity, as well as that of those under their influence. It is because of their Khutbas about issues pertaining to dirty socks, or how to make Ghusl, that major issues facing the Muslims in the West are brushed aside. Does it take a lot of effort to do a Khutbah defending a Muslim, or distributing complaint letters or a petition amongst the congregation? Is it so dangerous, or so much at odds with your mailing-list policies, that you cannot send out ONE email requesting the Muslim masses to take part in a worthwhile petition or sending a complaint letter, in order to show support for a community hero? As for those people of knowledge amongst the scholars and callers, are you pleased to be a ‘Shaitan Akhras’ - a dumb devil, who remains silent as he sees the sanctities of Allah being violated, and honours attacked - as described by Ibn al-Qayyim?! Or are you waiting for the mortar to fall in close proximity, for you to move your limbs?

No need to fire back with a response or an excuse. Rather, it is time to repent to Allah for our neglect of our troubled brothers, and to patch up our inactive pasts with a future of worthwhile participation in all that is required to help and protect them.

Hence, I warmly call on the brothers and sisters with hearts to respond, by sending a letter of complaint to the relevant authorities in defence of Ms. Mudassar Arani.

May Allah record us amongst those who respond to His call, and surely the neglectful will be recompensed for their abandonment.
