UK Islamic Events for Friday 5th November 2004
Assalámu'alaikum wa Rahmatulláhi wa Barakátuhu.
The purpose of this noticeboard is to advertise Islamic events taking place within the UK. These include lectures, regular circles, classes and sports activities, as well as one-off seminars, conferences and exhibitions. We also put up notices for accomodation, jobs, items for sale, Islamic projects, schools, counselling services, etc. Many of you will already be familiar with the noticeboard, having received weekly e-mails over the last year. We are open to all Muslims and you are welcome to advertise any event as long as it is Islamic in nature and does not harm the interests of others. We look forward to your participation.

MUSLIM YOUTHS IN PRISON
Date: Sunday 7th November 2004
Time: 11am - 1pm
Venue: Froud Centre, 1 Toronto Avenue, Manor Park, London, E12 5JF
Did you know that nearly 9% of the Muslim population are currently
in prison? What should we do to address this as a community? Do we
care enough to do something about it or are we waiting for our own
relatives to go behind bars first? Muslim Youth Network will be
introducing an innovative platform whereby young Muslims profile
their experiences and coping methods to help others. The issue of
Muslim youths in prison will be looked at in terms of challenges,
stereotypes and prejudices that young Muslim prisoners face whilst
inside prison and afterwards as they try to rebuild their lives.
250 copies of English translations of the Qur'an are urgently need
to give to prisoners for this campaign. Please bring as many new
copies as possible this Sunday along with personal messages to
give to the prisoners.

RAMADAN IN CAPTIVITY
by British Political Prisoner, Babar Ahmad, MX5383, Woodhill Prison
Allah (swt) said in (2:185): "The month of Ramadan is that in which
was revealed the Quran, a guidance for people, clear proofs of
guidance and a criterion (to judge between right and wrong)."
It was reported by Abu Said al-Khudri, that the Messenger of Allah
(saws) said: "Whosoever fasts one day in the Path of Allah, a
distance of seventy years journey will be placed between him and
the Hell Fire." (Sahih Muslim)
The Pious Predecessors would spend six months of every year
preparing for Ramadan and the other six months asking Allah to
accept the deeds that they did in Ramadan. Preparation for the
prisoners to receive Ramadan begins a couple of months before
Ramadan, with brothers starting voluntary fasts once a week or
so. Once Shabaan begins, the frequency of these voluntary fasts
increases to twice a week and more approaching the days just
before Ramadan ...
