Coventry City Circle Presents:
AN IFTAR - SEEKING LAILATUL QADR
By Mawlana Shahrul Hussain (Al-Azhar University, Eygpt)*
Date: Saturday 30th October 2004
Time: 4.30 pm - 7.00 pm
Venue: St Pauls Church Hall, 346 Foleshill Road, Foleshill,
Coventry, CV6 5AJ
As we approach the last 10 days of Ramadan, we see the masjids
preparing for those who wish to perform I'tikaaf (seclusion).
Among these nights there is one special night, which is better
than a thousand months.
"Verily! We have sent it (this Qur'an) down in the Night of
Decree (Lailatul-Qadr). And what will make you know what the
Night of Decree is? The Night of Decree is better than a
thousand months. Therein descend the angels and the Rűh,
[Jibrâ'îl (as)] by Allah's Permission with all Decrees.
Peace it is until the appearance of dawn." (97:1-5)
The following questions often arise:
* What should I do? Are their any special prayers, specific du'a
or actions that one should do?
* What is I'tikâf? What is the purpose and are there any rules?
* Can women do it? Can I do I'tikâf at home?
* When is Lailatul-Qadr? Why do most people observe it on the
27th night of Ramadan?
* What are the signs of Lailatul-Qadr? Are there any signs?
* Do you feel this is really relevant or important?
*Mawlana Shahrul Hussain is a graduate from Al-Azhar University.
