Islamic Circles Presents:
EXPLANATION OF SURAH AL-FATIHA
By Dr Hafiz Usama Hasan [Cambridge,Middlesex]*
Date: Sunday 17th October 2004
Time: 11am - 1pm
Venue: Froud Centre, 1 Toronto Avenue, on the corner with Romford
Road, Manor Park, London, E12 5JF
We all recite Surah Al-Fatiha in our daily prayers but how many
us understand the meaning behind this famous opening chapter of
the Qur'an? Perhaps we are too arogant and think we know this
already. Or maybe we simply can't be bothered to learn more about
the Qur'an. Many of us seem to read it seamlessly in our prayers
but just think how often we jumble it up into a string of words
so that it is merely recited in some form or another?
Do we ever ponder over the deeper significance of this chapter?
Ramadan is the month when we are supposed to strengthen our
connection with the Holy Qur'an. Join Hafiz Usama as he goes
through the verses of this Surah and attempts to highlight
meanings unfamiliar to us in a way that helps bring it to life.
* Dr Usama Hasan holds an MSc in Theoretical Physics and a PhD
in Artificial Intelligence from the Universities of Cambridge
and London respectively. He is a Hafiz of the Qur'an and has an
ijazah for the Hadith collections of Bukhari and Muslim through
his father Shaykh Suhaib Hasan and his grandfather Shaykh Abdul
Ghaffar Hasan. He has served as a voluntary imam, khatib and
Arabic teacher at various mosques in London and Cambridge over
the last 18 years. His published translations include Imam
al-Ajurri's Character of the People of the Quran, The Concise
Legacy and Tolerance within Islam, both by Imam Ibn Taymiyyah,
and The Prophet's Prayer Described by the late Shaykh al-Albani.
After five years working as a neural networks / data mining
consultant in UK industry (including the development of an
Automatic Number-Plate Recognition System that is deployed on
some UK motorways and A-roads), Br Usama is currently a Senior
