Alarmingly there are further more shops selling haram meat. It's best to check with your butchers. The other day my relative asked the local buthchers about how the meat is slaughtered and in particular if the animal is stunned. The butcher says "WHAT DO YOU DOUBT US! I SAW IT WITH MY OWN EYES THEY STUN THE ANIMAL IN THE LEG THEN THEY PRONOUNCE ALLAH'S NAME AND THEN SLAUGHTER IT! WHAT DO TAKE US FOR! FEAR ALLAH".
Once the man calmed down it was politely explained to him that stunning the meat whether before or after makes the meat 'Maeta' i.e. dead meat and therefore haram.

"O, I C" he said.

3 main points to remember about slaughtering of the meat.

1. Any stunning of the meat whether the animal died or not before or after the slaughter is haraam meat. By Kufur law nearly all of the slaughter houses need to be stun pre slaughtering.

2. The person who slaughters has to pray. If he leaves the Salaah for 3 nights his slaughtered meat is dead meat.
It was narrated by Abdullah ibn Omar (ra) The Messenger (saw) said, “The slaughtered meat of the one (slaughterer) who leaves the Salaah for three nights is dead meat.” [Hadith]
Ibn Kathir used this example for the Tafsir when Allah (swt) say’s “Therefore turn in prayer to your Lord and sacrifice (to Him only).” [Qur’an 108:2]

3. The slaughtering house might be shared by Kuffar and Muslims and that will contaminate the meat.
