Question:
Can treating sickness with the Qur'an heal physical diseases such as cancer as it can heal spiritual diseases as al-'ayn (the evil eye) or al-mass (being touched by Shaytaan, i.e., madness), etc? Is there any evidence for that? May Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
Praise be to Allah.
In the Qur'an and du'a there may be healing for all ills, by Allah's leave.
There is a great deal of evidence for that, for example Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):
~"Say: 'it is for those who believe, a guide and a healing.'"~
[Fussilat 41:44]
~"And We send down of the Qur'an that which is a healing and a mercy to those who believe"~
[al-Israa' 17:82]
The Prophet, sallallahu 'alayhi wasalam, when he was suffering from some ailment would recite into his hands when going to sleep, "Qul Huwa Allahu Ahad" and al-Mi'wadhatayn [i.e., the last three soorahs of the Qur'an], three times, each time wiping as much of his body as he could, starting with his head and face and chest. He did this every time he went to sleep, as was reported in the saheeh hadeeth narrated from 'Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her).
Majmoo' Fataawa wa Maqaalaat Mutanawwi'ah li Samaahat al-Shaykh al-'allamah 'Abd al-'azeez ibn 'Abd-Allah ibn Baaz (may Allah have mercy on him), vol.8, p.364 [www.islam-qa.com]
