With shortcut keys you can open programs up much faster than just clicking at it with a mouse. For example just press Crtl+Alt+W and you can open up MS word. But you don’t even have to press 3 keys you can press 2, if you got an “Alt Gr” key you don’t have to press “Ctrl”, just press Alt Gr +W.
Here’s how you create your shortcut keys.
First select a folder where you want all your shortcuts to be. Its best to put them in your programs folder as they might not work else where. So go to C:\Documents and Settings\your username\Start Menu\Programs, or just click start and double click the programs menu.
Create a new folder and call it “shortcuts”.
Place the shortcut files to your most used programs. Either by right clicking a program and send to desktop(create shortcut) and moving that file into your shortcuts folder, or right click in your shortcuts folder and select new->create shortcut, then browse to the program you want to create a shortcut.
Once you got your shortcut in your shortcut folder, right click the shortcut file and select properties. Where it says shortcut key: type a letter and press ok.
So if it was a shortcut to MS word, you might put crtl+alt+w as its shortcut. Remember you don’t have to press crtl if u got the Alt Gr key.
Here are some of the shortcuts that I use:
Alt Gr+A : a:\
Alt Gr+C : runs batch file that carries out a built in command
Alt Gr+: Dreamweaver
Alt Gr+E : e:\
Alt Gr+F: Flash
Alt Gr+M: My Documents
Alt Gr+N: Notepad
Alt Gr+P :Paint
Alt Gr+Q: Quran
Alt Gr+H : Hadith
Alt Gr :Nahseed playlist(one click)
Alt Gr+, : Log off
Alt Gr+. : ShutDown
Alt Gr+/ : Restart
Alt Gr++ calculator
Alt Gr+V : VB
You may have noticed that I have shortcut keys for logging off, shutting down and restarting the computer. I like to use the ,./ keys as they are close together. You can choose more sensible letters like L,S,R to help you remember. Bear in mind you cant use the same letter twice for diff shortcuts.
Heres how you do it.
1. Right click in your shortcuts folder and select new->Shortcut
2. To create a log off shortcut enter "shutdown -l -t 00" – no quotes
3. For a shutdown enter "shutdown -s -t 00"
4. For a restart enter "shutdown -r -t 00"
5. Add shortcut keys to each of the above
Windows has its own shortcut for lock computer or switch user(xp): just press the windows symbol +L
It might be hard to remember all your shortcut keys but if you use em often it’ll be easy to pick up.
So there you go, “try it yourself”- create your own shortcut keys and I’ll see you in the next thread and show you how to create your own “virus”.
