Belief in Angels

~...Each one believes in Allah, His Angels, His Books, and His Messengers...~
[2:285]

We believe in the existence of the angels of Allah and that they are "honoured servants. They do not speak before He does, and they act only by His command." [21:26]
Allah created the angels and they worhsip and obey Him. "Those who are at His presence do not disdain to worship Him, nor do they weary." [21:19]

We cannot see the Angels, however, Allah may show them to some of His servants. According to some Hadeeth, the Prophet Muhammed -sallallahu 'alayhi wasalam, saw the Angel Jibril (Gabriel) in his real shape, and when in the company of his companions Jibril appeard in the form of an unknown man with very white clothes and very black hair. Jibril also took the form of a man when he met and conversed with Maryam mother of 'Isa (Mary mother of Jesus).

We believe that the angels have certain functions... ~"And by those angels who arrange to do the Commands of their Lord..."~ [79:5]
Jibril is entrusted with revelation which he brings down from Allah to whomever He wishes among His Prophets and Messengers.
~"He has been taught this (Qur'an) by one mighty in power (Jibril)"~ [53:5]
Michael is in charge of rain and plantation.
Israfil in charge of blowing the Horn at the time of Thunderbolting and Resurrection.
The Angel of death, takes away people's soul at the time of death.
~Say: "The angel of death, who is set over you, will take your souls. Then you shall be brought to your Lord."~ [32:11]
Angels in the Grave are Munkar and Nakeer.
Al-Bukhari reported that the Prophet -sallallahu 'alayhi wasalam, said that when someone is placed in the grave, and his companions turn and go, and he can still hear the tread of their sandals, two angels come to him and make him sit up and then they question him.
Malik is the overseer of the keepers of Hell.
~"And they will cry: "O Malik! Let your Lord make an end of us."~ [43:77]
~"And those who disbelieved will be driven to Hell in groups till when they reach it, the gates thereof will be opened. And its keepers will say: "Did not the Messengers come to you from yourselves, reciting to you the Verses of your Lord, and warning you of the Meeting of this Day of yours?..."~ [39:71]
Angels of Paradise and their overseer is Ridwan.
~"And those who kept their duty to their Lord will be led to Paradise in goups till when they reach it, and its gates will be opened and its keepers will say: "Salamun 'Alaikum!..."~ [39:73]
Some angels are in charge of embryos in wombs.
"Allah has appointed an angel in the womb and the angel says, "O Lord! A drop of discharge (i.e. semen). O Lord! A clot. O Lord! a piece of flesh. And then if Allah wishes to complete the child's creation the angel will say, O Lord! A male or female? O Lord! Wretched or blessed (in religion)? What will his livelihood be? The angel writes all this while the childe is in the womb of its mother." [Al-Bukhari]
Some Angels are in charge of recording men's deeds (i.e. two angels for every person)
~But verily, over you (are appointed angels in charge of mankind) to watch you, Kiraman (Honourable) Katibin -writing down (your deeds).~ [82:10-11]
Guardian Angels.
~He is the Irresistible (Supreme), over His slaves, and He sends guardians over you...~ [6:61]
Bearers of the Throne:
The Messenger of Allah -sallallahu 'alayhi wasalam, said: "I was given permission to speak about one of the Bearers of the Throne - his two feet are resting on the lowest earth and the Throne rests on the top of his head..."

The Messenger of Allah -sallallahu 'alayhi wasalam, said: "The angels were created from light..."

Angels are different from humans and do not have any of man's physical attributes (although they may appear in the shape of man). They do not eat, drink, sleep or procreate. They are not male nor female. They have wings:
~Praise belongs to Allah, the Bringer-into-being of the heavens and the earth, the Maker of the angels into messengers, possessing wings - two, three and four...~ [35:1]
The Messenger of Allah -sallallahu 'alayhi wasalam, saw Jibreel on the Night Journey and described him as having six hundred wings, the distance between each wing being the same as that between the east and the west.
The Angels fill the space between the heaven and earth.
Angels do not posses free will, thus they do not have desires nor do they commit sins or misdeeds.
~"There is not one of us (angels) but has his known place. Verily, we stand in rows for prayers. Verily, we are they who glorify (Allah's Praises)."~ [37:164-166]

Denial of the existence of Angels is considered disbelief because a person would be rejecting verses of the Qur'an and sayings of the Prophet, sallallahu 'alayhi wasalam.
~O you who believe! Believe in Allah and His Messenger, and the Book which He sent down to His Messenger, and the Scriptures which He sent down before. Anyone who rejects Allah and His Angels and His Books and His Messengers and the Last Day has gone very far astray.~ [4:136]

~Those who bear the Throne,
and all those around it,
glorify the praise of their Lord
and believe in Him and ask forgiveness for those who believe:
'Our Lord, You encompass everything in mercy and knowledge!
Forgive those who turn to You and who follow Your way
and safeguard them from the punishment of the Blazing Fire.'"~
[40:7]
