How do you feel about broad demographics?
From Minnesota, USA
Over 18
One of the most frequent questions I have about others on the list is whether the writer is a Muslim living in a non-Muslim state. I know that many of the participants here are Muslim teenagers from the UK who are using English as a second language. I have to be curious about whether or not the number of years exposed to western ideas and actual experience in the free world softens their ideas.
And I have to wonder if any Muslim in the UK would live under shariah.
sam
And why should anyone worry about living under Sharia-unless he is a criminal!
And being a revert to islam, being brought up in a western society which I see is becoming more decadent and immoral day by day, does not soften my attitude. In fact, it hardens my islamic stance!
And why do you think muslims in the UK speak english as a second language? Most muslims here come from third generation immigrants.

I am a revert and live in the Uk. I teach at a muslim school and only a few of the students speak English as a second language. My husband, whos father is from Pakistan, speaks 80% English. I bug him to teach our children Urdu, but he forgets to speak it himself, and as a result their first language is English. My husbands 15 year old sister can understand urdu but can not speak it.
I would live under shariah. If there was a true Islamic country out there today, myself and many of the people I know would be prepared to emigrate.

Thank you for your considerate and thoughtful answers.
Perhaps I was unclear that I was asking Sajid to encourage participants to put into their personal profiles facts like, over 18 (adult), Mulsim, Revert, migrant to UK. I'm sure I won't surprise either of you to observe that some fairly horrid hatred is expressed. It would be helpful to see if the teenagers are the only ones--and perhaps they aren't.
However, you offered more and I'd like to refine your answer.
Rukaya, do you love your country? Are you assuming that shariah would be implemented by the men who will be compelled to act as Allah directed?
Sultan. Can you state the distribution over arrival of Muslims?
For example, 1% are just arrived, 49% are second generation , 50% are third or more. If you see evil in the UK, hasn't the Qur'an been very explicit about what you must do. "If you see evil ..."
Sam
samy boy, I get your agenda. Your trying that branding of Muslims that the nazis did to jews arent ya? The new one which is being tried by your government. May you fail in your efforts Infidel.

I love England. The hills, lakes and greenery are great. But the people range from friendly and inquisitive, to down right rude. I dont mind other English folks questioning me, thats cool. But lots, are judgemental and unkind. I would live under a Shariah, because tho I am not a perfect Muslim, (who is?) I accept the religion of Islam in its entirety. I believe in Islam, and that it was revealed from God, so obviously, as God made us and knows what is best for his creation, I would accept Islamic laws. I would not fear being punished for a crime, because I do not commit any.
Im fed up with my kids seeing semi naked bodies, and ppl in lewd acts. I have got rid of our T.V. for this very reason, but there are bill boards showing adverts of a vulgar nature all around our city. Last week 2 girls were kissing in town, and my 4 year old was confused by it. When I was young I was not allowed to watch kissing on the telly, or even say the word 'pregnant'. And being 'gay' was shameful. Im only 24!!! If sexual awareness is supposed to be good, then why when I didnt know what sex was until I was 14, are youngsters more frequently getting pregnant at that age.
Feminists used to condemn women showing there bodies to all, now its part of 'girl power'. Sorry, but women are playing into the hands of perverted males again. And more and more girls are suffering from eating disorders. I myself did, because I was jealous of the slim peformers on TV. Now I can see I was never fat. My Girl power is to wear my scarf and nikaab, and be appreciated for my intelligence, and opinions, not because of what I look like. I'm respected and do not get men gauping at me. Men open doors for me, and step aside to let me pass.
If you were burgled, you'd like to see the guy have his hand chopped off, if he was a persistent offender. Everyone with savings would have to give 2.5% to the poor. Those that would commit adultery would maybe think first. You actually have to have i think, 2 witnesses to the act to be punished, but the thought of being punished might make you think twice. And maybe if those who wouldnt mind having 4 wives, and those women who wouldnt mind sharing a husband, (I know some) were allowed, Men wouldnt feel frustrated and need to look else where, and women could get a break sometimes, without the fear of her hubbie running off. Also the men would be responsible for any children that result of these relationships, and not run off and leave the women to it.
I could go on forever, but i best not bore you too much.

Your view of the UK is not unlike my view of the US. I greatly admire the UK for being the basis of what we've built in the US. I can also understand your wish for modesty and I won't bother to repeat viewpoints from the other side. I believe you may be certain as to what's best for your children. I can only assert that you may be correct and I will never force my opinions on you.
The written laws of the US state emphatically that the government gets its power from the people and assumes the people will need protection from the government. Without a great deal of discussion, the US Constitution accepts that the people have retained the right to choose their own religion and provides for means to enforce this right. Sharia will never permit this and is forever contradictory to the US Constitution.

Samadams,
As usual, you are up the creek without a paddle.
Under Sharriah law all religious minorities are protected from any kind of persecution provide they pay a tax called "Jizya". Look it up, from Muslim sources, to find out what it means.
People who pay the Jizya, and are thus protected in this way, are called "Dhimmi" (some transcribe it "Zimmi"). Research the meaning of that, too.
That is part of the Sharriah constitution, which is not due to be repealed until the second coming of Jesus.
OH DEAR! You've put your foot in it again! Back to the drawing board! Enjoy your research!
jamila;)
PS: Just to be helpful, I'm quoting part of the "Constitution of the first Islamic state". Also a commentry on "Dhimmi". The links to the relevant sites are below the quotes.
"This is the protection which the servant of God, 'Umar, the Ruler of the Believers has granted to the people of Eiliya [Jerusalem]. The protection is for their lives and properties, their churches and crosses, their sick and healthy and for all their coreligionists. Their churches shall not be used for habitation, nor shall they be demolished, nor shall any injury be done to them or to their compounds, or to their crosses, nor shall their properties be injured in any way. There shall be no compulsion for these people in the matter of religion, nor shall any of them suffer any injury on account of religion... Whatever is written herein is under the covenant of God and the responsibility of His Messenger, of the Caliphs and of the believers, and shall hold good as long as they pay Jizya [the tax for their defense] imposed on them."
http://islamic-world.net/khalifah/khulafa_ur_rashiduun2.htm
"Muhammad's sallallahu alayhi wasallam whole emphasis is on leading a "balanced life" whereby every member of the society would become "a keeper unto every other".
And in Muhammad's sallallahu alayhi wasallam society the non-Muslim minorities are called "Zimmi" or the "Protected of Allah and of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam".
The Zimmi's security has to be guaranteed by the State and the Society, and the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam repeatedly warned people against doing any wrong to a Zimmi. Thus, in an Islaamic Society not only do the minorities get a just treatment but also a generous one."
